anneal meeting of the congregation of
Duff's °boron, Walton, took place on
Tuesday evening, 14th inet. Tea was
served in the basement before proceeding
to the baeineee-of the evening. The oheir
wag occupied by the pastor, Rev. A. Mao.
Nab, M. A., who opened the meeting by
reading of Soriptaree and prayer. Re.
porta were rendered by the Secretaries of
the varioae organizations of the co0grega•
tion and these were in every oath exceed-
ingly encouraging. The cougregation has
never been in as hopeful or flourishing a
oondition. The attendance bas been un-
usually large during the year, and every
branch of the work bas flourished beyoud

evening, Jan. 10, a largenumber of the
members and adherents of the Roman
Oathollo ohuroh of Brothels, assembled
et the reeidenoe of Richard Ryan, of
Walton, for the porpoise of .showing rheic
appreoiation of the eerviaee of Blies Ellie
Ryan as organist of the ohuroh, a position
whioh she filled moat faithfully and effi•
dandy for some time. After the company
had assembled, James Ryan read an ad•
dram, setting forth the very deep grati-
tude fait by the congregation to Mien
Ryan for her ever willing servioes. Dan.
Roland Eben presented her, on behalf of
the congregation, with a beautiful watch
and chain. Min Ryan, in her reply,
heartily thanked those present for their
kind and substantial appreciation of the
services she had been able to render the
church. Then followed a program of
music and dancing, when lunch was eery-
ed
eryed and a social time spent. The evening
was a moat enjoyable one and when leav-
ing
eaving all felt that it Wae good to have been
there. •

Ohio, on a busitteee trip. On

tained, gave him false information. Mr.
Coates noticed the fellow following him

made at a house near by and the desired

Jno. M. Davies, of this village, was

of Jno. Molntoeh who was unable to mot
owing to hie having bad a small amount
with the township during the past year.
OBIT.—Tbe very sad death 0113. Arnett
occurred at his residence, lot 10, con. 6,
West Niesouri, on Deo.29. Deceased
was born in Ireland, 1824, and came to
Canada in 1849, locating on the farm on
which he died, whioh was then a wilder-
ness, and hewed out a very comfortable
home for himself and family. London
was at that time aompoeed of a very few
little log shanties. He also helped to out
through and oonatruot the Governor's
Road, which fe now one of the finest
highways around London. He had en-
dured the hardships of pioneer life for
almost half a century. He leaves a
widow and a family of five sone and two
daughters, all grown up. They ooneiet
of William, who resides in the township
of Grey; Jsmee, of Niseonri township ;
Mre. F. Oxboby, near Ethel ; Robert, of
London ; Lizzie, of. London ; Albert, on
the homestead. and. Alexander, who bats
lately secured a position in Detroit. All
through life be was an honest and highly
reepeoted man, and Ole death has oast a
gloom over the neighborhood.

evening of this week when E. Oober and
wife arrived home from choir practice at
the Presbyterian church they found their
reeidenoe in the bands of a jolly company
of old friende, numbering about 76. Mre.
D. W. Dunbar read a kindly worded ad-
drese and Mre. Robert Barr presented a

Mr. ()ober and a silver cake basket to

occasion of your departure from our midst
pass without,, in some feeble way,conveying
to you our appreciation of the dep interest
douhave manifested in our welfare' both for

you have dwelt inthis place.- Our associa-
tions with you have been moat pleasant and
profitable and we regret that they are so soon
to-be'severed. But since .commercial inter-
ests and;noreaeing But, have necessitated
your removal to where a wider horizon and
better facilities are available, wemust be-
come resigned to separate with you. Yeb we
assure you, .while you may be absent, you
will not be forgotten. In the Sunday school
as Superintendent, in the church as usher
and in the Quarterly Board as Recording
Steward, the name ''Mr. John Oober" will
long be cherished and revered for the estim-
able servicesyou so cheerfully have rendered
in those Nide of labor during the past 28
years. And you, Mre. Oober, by your kind
and amiable disposition, your zeal and untir-
ing interest in the church, in the Missionary
Oirole and in the advancement of Christ's
kingdom in general in this village, have en-
deared yourself to us by ties that never shall
be broken. Language fails to express our
deep debt of gratitude to you both for the
interest you have taken in us spiritually, and
our high appreciation of you and your

good oaoee. Mr. and. Mre. Oober will be
removing to their new home, at Brussels,
about the close of this month. It may
be of interest to some to kuow that they
will be next door neighbors in the aorpet
