Foot Ball match in that village :-The
football match between the Brnseelh
seniors and the looal team played here
last Friday eve on the Park, resulted in
favor of the visiting team by 1 goal to 0.
Oar boys did not expect to win as tbey
had not a regular senior team all Summer
mod were quite well satisfied to keep the
fast Brussels players from scoring 113010
then one goal. The back division of the
home team certainly put up a great game
and it was mainly owing to their steady
and consistent playing that the score was
kept down. Daring the first half of the
game the borne team had decidedly the
beet of the game although Brussels scored
on a swift side shot from Tom McCrae,
the creek right wing man el the Listowel
Marlboros. Tbe local forwards lacked
oombination and did not seem to be
aggressive enough in following up the
ball, altboogh at times they played bril-
liant football and kept the Brussels de•
fence busy.
DoN'T Mase IT. -Next Monday evening,
our Civic holiday, one of the liveliest
games of Foot Ball ever witnessed in
Brueeele is expected in the return, match
between Listowel and Brneeele. The
visitors play a strong game and are com-
ing fully determined to regain their lost
'enrols of Jaly 12th and our boyo are
going to see what they Dan do toward
repeating the dose. Every lover of foot
ball within a radius a 16 miles will want
to see it. Maboh will be played at 6.15

En1CATIONAL, -The Department of
Ednoation has deoided upon a new aye -
tem in 000naotion with the departmental
examinations. Heretofore the restate in
all the examinations for teaobera and
matriaulantO were published in one
issue of the Toronto papers. This the
Department thougbt led to an unhealthy
and auwiee rivalry among the different
high schools and collegiate institutes of
the province and Doe school vied with
another in the number of pupils who
ooald get oertifioates. The value placed
upon teachers' work both by intending
pupils, by teachers themeelveo and by
school trustees was judged by the number
of bio mile who were successful. In
this way cramming for examinations is
encouraged. In the future the results
will be sent directly to the head master
of the different eohoole, and then they
man use their own judgment as to the
pablioation of results. In no ease, hots.
ever, will there be one publication of
successful candidates.

Bees BALL. - Fordwioh ball tossers
came to town last Monday and played a
match with our nine on Victoria Park.
The visitors went to bat first but they
were enable to ofpber out Tbomson's
oarvee, booked up by Hamilton's work as
catcher and generally good fielding. Bo
much was this the ogee that at the close
of the 5th innings the score was 10 to 1
in favor of Braesele. This area too one
aided and in response to many requoete,
the visiting team iooluded, the pitching
was slowed up and the "lob" substituted
and a general free and easy style was
adopted. With thio oondition of affairs
Fordwioh rattled out 5 rine in the 6111
and 1 in the 7th, which was supposed to
be the last innings making 8 to 11 in
favor of the home team. It wee suggest-
ed that two more innings be played and
Allison was pat in the box for Brneeele
for the 8th innings but he was wild and
presented baoee on balls, sometimes with
beams full so that when the third man
was ont Fordwioh bad 8 runs to their
oredit making them 16 to Brussels 11.
The ope06ators were tboroaghly enjoying
the mane, barring an occasional "roast"
by Umpire Johnston who did not appear
to always be unbiassed, but the willow
wielders of town saw that 6 runs were
necessary to win so at it they went and
did not quit until the requisite number
were scored. Fordwloh was Shite-waeb-
ad in the 0th, going out in 1, 2, 8, order,
Tbomeon pitching. Brneeolt did not
take their half of the, innings. The
