Gonant:cn BAGEL—Tuesday, the day
advertised for the opening of the first
meet of the Goderioh turf aseooiation,
was the wettest so far this season, and at
2 p. m., as there were no eign0 of a res.
settee of the downpour, the secretary
oiroulated a notice postponing the ranee
till Wednesday and Thareday. On Wed-
nesday the weather was all that could be
desired, and the track being in perfect
condition the three trots advertised for
the first day were put through by 6.45 p.
m. The starter and judges were all men
from outside, and as they knew their
business every event on the card was
satiefaotorily conducted. The firet and
second races drew epeedy horses, bat the
beats as a whole were not over exciting ae
six beats oat of seven in these races were
of the processional kind. The third, the
2.15, however, was excellent, eaob beat
being stoutly oonteeted, and through
nearly the whole of them the five horses
were in bunch. Betting did not seem
to be a strong feature, and though there
were a few on each heat the honk could
not have added mach to its reserve fund.
So far as the management of the mast
was concerned nothing could have been
better, and perfect order prevailed from
