0,0 we are kept berg about 24 hqure every
day on sentry, outpost duty, patrols, &o„
&a„ as the Boers and pro•Boere are
around here everywhere. We have a
little skirmish about twioe a week regu•
lar. But they are gradually taking their
milk and we expect to make a general
move on Pretoria in another weals or so.
The advance will undoubtedly be very
rapid. We look and hope for events tbat
will make the 24th of May coming, a
glorious 24th, and thet will gladden our
own hearts and the heart of the Empire.
At Cape Town there are now abort 3,•
500 Boer prisoners of war from hoth the
Transvaal and the Free State. May are
moetly big men and as rougb as a piece
of Band paper. You eau believe any
piotnre you see of them. When in Cape

24 hours. One tried to get away about 5
o'clock under cover of a fog, but we bad
doable sentries on and e• rifle was soon
brought to bear oo him. The Warwicke
were on guard one night and auooeeded in
letting 40 escape. They were consequent-

very moth surprised when I
saw the Eoglieh regulars. They era
not in it for a minute with the colonials
