—Mre. John Dutton, mother to Mrs. G.
A. Deadman, of this plane, passed away
from time on Wednesday of this week,
at the home of her daughter, Mre. Olark,
at Woodstock. She had been ill for
some months and Mre. Deadman had
only arrived from visiting her on Tues-
day night. She returned to Woodetook
Thnreday morning and the funeral will
lake plane on Friday afternoon. Mr.
Dutton, who is a well known resident of
Stratford, is in very poor health, his
heart being the chief amide. Mre, Dat-
ton'e death was due to a complication of
ailments. She numbered her friends by
the hundrede. Three eons and six
daughters survive the mother.

rates, bat whether it ie a beneficial

Under the old rate for short distances

charged 25o for the first five minutes.
Under the new rates the non•enbsoribere'
rates ere cancelled and they are allowed
the same rates as subscribers, bat the
enbeoribere' rates have also been changed.
Instead of talking five minutes for 3.50
only 3 minutes are allowed and the
charge for overtime is 5a per minute.
The only advantage on the new rate is
that it is SOo cheaper to non•eubsoribere
for three minute menages, bat a great
deal higher to both eobeoribere and nog•
subscribers for longer messages. A ten
minute talk under the old rate coet gab.

OMT.—About midnight last Sunday
the epirit of Ellen Tait, retire, of the late
Joeeph Bennett, took its flight. De-
ceased wee the fourth daughter of the
late Robert Tait and a sister to John
Tait, at whose residence, Queen street,
Brussels, she died. Mrs. Bennett was
born in the Co. of Durham and 22 years
ago was married to Joseph Bennett, of
Grey township. They had no family.
She returned from a visit to bar sister at
Kangas last Cbristmae and has been at
Mr. Tait's singe. Although not in very
robust health she was able to get about
until Lees than 2 weeks before her de-
cease when she was stricken with
paralysis which resulted in her death.
She bold adherence to the Methodist
church. Bev. Jno. Holmes, assisted by
Rev. R. Paul, took the service on Tose'
day after000n. The pall bearers were
W. H. MOOraoken, Alex. Stewart, Jno.
Wbitfield, Alex. Ellis, H. Rail and Geo.
Howe, Interment was made in the
