Mag. ChmLITON DIGD.—On Saturday
evening, in Goderiob, at the residence of
her daughter, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Ordliton,
beloved wife of the late Ons. Onlliton,
died at the age ot 71 years. She was
born in Armagh county, Ireland. A
family of three sons and five daughtere
survive. They are, William, of Wind
peg ; Robert, of Portage-la•Prairie ;
Rioharti, of Walkerton ; and Mrs.
Kelly, of Goderich ; Mrs. Oarroll, of
Arthur ; Mra. Quirk cold Miss Oalliton, of
Stratford. The deaeased lady visited bar
darigbter, Mra. P. Moore, when she was
a resident in Brussels, and was known by
a camber in town. The ft:moral took
place on Tuesday morning from near
Blyth and the remains were laid to rest
near the old homestead, in Morris town.

ing the community was startled to bear
that Henry Rogerson, the 7 year old
nephew of Mrs. Frank Babies, Mill street,
had been shot in the head by a bullet
from a revolver. The partioulars of the
unfortunate acmident are as follows :—

DEATH Or HES GRILLS. --The Ilarris•
ton Tribune makes the following reference
to the decease of Mrs. Grills of whose
death Tar Poem spoke last week :— Death,
the Grim Reaper, has been busy around
these parts latelY. We are this time
called upon to record the denth of Mra.
Thonme Grille at the oomparatively
young age of 49 yeare. Mrs. Grills was
a lady who had lived for a long time in
this section and had made many friends.
She was a prominent member of the
Methodist church, and, with her demgh
ters, took mach interest in oburoh work,
She had been 111 for three or four weeks.
The losing of wife and mother is a sad
blow to Mr. Grills and family. The
funeral took place from the family
residenoe, Elora 'street, Tktureday after.
noon at a o'clock to the Methodist (thumb
where a short service was bold by Rev.
J. W. Gilpin, in the abeam of Rev. R.
Burns the pastor, who was away attend-
ing the funeral of hio father, and the
montage then proceeded to the Harriston
cemetery, There was a large attendance.

deepest sympathy of their moat friends.
The pall.bearers were VVilliam Beatty,'
Jesse Kaiser, john Jaokeon, James A.
Macaulay, W. W. Morley and Thomas
Renton. The deceased's maiden name
was Leah Groff. She was born near
Galt, in Dumfries Township, Out, on
Jan. 2nd, 1851. She was married to
Thomas Grille about twenty-six years
ago, and oarne to Minto, where she re-
sided until her death. Deceased's family
oonsinte of eeven children, Sara, Wilfrid,
May, Edna, Abner and Frank at home,
and Mrs. Alberta Maud Patterson, of
Harriston. One brother survives Mrs.
Grills. He lives in Winnipeg, Man., and
four sisters live at Roseville and Ko•suth.

main street, Atwood. Holmes' store,
dwelling end barn were burned. Insur-

M. Hiles' store next got burned at the
book. He removed everything to the

The Hook and Ladder 0o. did good work
in saving this store. ' J. G. Robertson's

removed everything into the street, but
no damage was done. Hay Bros. grain
store caught fire in two or throe places on
tbe roof but it was quickly put out.

aardine Reporter of laet week says of a
brother in•law to Mrs. J. R. Grant, of
Winnipeg, formerly of Brussels :—On
Wedneeday of last week William Kay
died at his home on Victoria street, after
a prolonged illness, in the seventy-
seventh year of his age. Declassed wae
horn in a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland,
and when fonr years of age bia mother
died. Twelve years later, with his father
he emigrated to Canada where they
settled at Ayr and lived there till 1851.
In that year be oaroe up to Kitioardine
and settled on the Durham line, follow-
ing the occupation of farming till 1855,
when be moved into town and remained
here till his death. Tbe deceased was a
man highly respected in the community.
For forty years he had been an elder in
the Pre•byterian church and bad been
clerk of the session for many years. In
the early days he lead the oongregational
!gaging os precentor and filled other im-
portaut camas in the church inolndicg
that of superintendent of the Sunday
school. He was also active, in the early
days, in public matters, ocoupied s seat
at the Boerd of Education and was
atnottg the prornnters who established the
Meobanion' Inatitute here. For ahont a
q narter of a century he was lighthouse
keeper at Kinoardiae, being first ap.
pointed by the Mackenzie government to
take °barge of the light on the wharf,
and afterwards when . tbe lighthouse at
the bridge was built be was given charge
of that light by the Maodonald govern-
ment, notwithstanding the foot that be
had always been a pronounced Liberal in
politics. The fnueral on Saturday was
largely atteutied, all the pall bearers be-
ina elders of Knox (thumb. Ou Sunday
evening .Rev. Dr. Murray made imolai

deceased.
