Fermate' INSTrTUTE.—At the meeting
held in the Town Hall here on Tuesday
of last week, ander the auspices of the
Farmers' Institute, an interesting pro-
gram was given. In addition to Pres.
Straohan's suitable opening address, A.
Gardiner, of Leadbary, gave an intermit-
ing taikon "Underdraining ; " A. MoNeil,
of Walkerville, was quite at home on
"Apple Culture ; " and the oloeiog address
was given by T. H. Mason, of Stafford -
villa, on "Food and Dare of dairy cattle."
In the evening after the ebairman, Mr.
McNeil addreeeed the audience on "The
social aide of farm life ; " and Mr.
Mason took as hie topic "Some National
Problem," referring particularly to the
question of freigbt rates. Songe were
smog by W. Spence and Alex. Lamont in
good style. Tbe storm prevented a good
many from attending.

Constable MoLauobliu was instructed
to collect the Band instruments and uni-
forms and have them stored at the Town
Hall, awaiting the re -organization of
town Band.
Mr. Deadman asked that he be per-
mitted to cut down a few shade trees in
front of his property as he thought they
were too close. Street Committee to see
about it.
Application was made from W. M.
Sinclair asking for free use of Town Hall
for the sake of drilling a company of
young men once a week during the
Winter months. The request was ac-
ceded to.
Reeve Thomson introduced the ques-
tion of continuing the building of cement
walk next Summer and after discussing
the matter it was left over for future
considerati•
Transientontrader's license was also
talked over and the desirability of
making travelling hawkers put up the
license fee before being allowed to sell in
competition with local dealers considered
a neoeneity.
