Tam Provincial eleotion contest in Qaebeo was fought out Friday of teat week and the situation stands as follows : -62 Liberate ; 6 Ooneervativee ; and 4 independent Liberele. 85 Liberals were eleoted by acclamation. Premier Parent has reason for congratulation and yet we are 'of the opinion that a more evenly divided House would ensure more oarefnl legislation. There is sometimes danger of oareleesneee when a Government feels that they have things all their own way. Minim progress has been made in the development of pablio eentiment along the line of demand for and appreciation of Agricultural Colleges. There was a day not very long ago when a strenuous effort was neaeeeary for their defence bat now the people are almost a unit in their opinion as to their asefnlneee and neoeesity. The province of Quebec is instituting a large college at Bt, Annee wbioh will be under the supervision of Prof. Robertson, of Ottawa, and other Provinces have taken a leaf out of Ontario's book considering, no doubt, that one Province Mande in the fore- front in the splendid arrangements at the College at Guelph. No pereoo can truthfully say that the Ontario Govern• ment has not looked after the intonate of the farming oodemaoity in A 1 style and we believe the tillers of the soil appreciate the good work done. be -sinews oonneetion0 in bis own riding, I end billet it in an aobive duty of every Liberal candidate to see that no person who has been jadiolally noted for corrupt practices ie inoladed 10 hie electoral organization or brought into politioel contact with his oonstituent5. LABOR INTOI XST8, The consolidations of the existing bran. °bee of the Government servioe dealing with labor lnbereete ander a Minister of Qolonizsbion and Labor was recommend. ed ; also the provision of mounts of noir eiliation whereby strikes maybe avoided and the competition of prison labor with free labor prevented. NEW ONTARIO. The lengthy olaueee dealing with the development of New Onterio showed equal advance on the lines of public ownership. The proposal to extend the Government Railway to James Bay was encouraged, the laying out and Previa oialtzation of town Bites and water powers was also oommended, end the general advance of that new land to be opened up by 200 miles of railway from North to South and 750 miles from East to West, was commended and enjoined. Tam Toronto Star editorially deals with a comparison of the two political parties in Ontario as they have appeared before eleotion Courts for violation of the Election law as follows : "Io the presence of snob awful wrongs as have taken plane in the Province of Ontario, we are face to face with a situ. ation the gravity of wbioh usenet be ex- aggerated," Dried W. F. Ooakshatt, of Brantford, at the Conservative Con- ference Friday. Bot, on the whole, the speakere at the aonferenoe were not deterred from making attempts to exag- gerate it somewhat. The last Provincial eleotione were held in 1902, and as a result twentyfour eleotion protests went to trial. 01 these twenty-four protests six resulted in the unseating of the members. elect, and eighteen resulted in the eleotion of the members being upheld. Eleven of these proteete were against Conservative members, of whom four were unseated. Thirteen of these protests were against Liberal members, of whom two were noseated. The ridings were as follows : Ooneervatives. Liberals. North Perth North Grey North Norfolk North York Center Bruce Seal% Ste. Marie. The eleotion praotioes of the Oonser. vatives in the oampaign of 1902 resulted in four members being unseated. The election practices of the Liberals in the last general elections resulted in but two members being unseated. This seemly indicated that the Liberal party its act much worse than the other party as the language of Mr. Oookshott would make opt. The result of the trials following the bye-electiooe is not so favorable to the Liberal party. In five ridings Liberele were elected, and in one riding a Conservative won, Three of these Liberals have been unseated, one was unseated but has appealed, in another the oase is not yet oonoluded. In the ease of the Conservative elected in a bye• eleotion, be has resigned, Taking the last general eleotione and bye.eleotione together, Eve Conservatives have vacated their seats, and six Liberals, This does not show the "swill" disparity between the two petition.' parties that one would expect, considering the professions made at the Coneetvative Conferenoe. THE LIBERAL PLATFORM, At the great Liberal Convention held at Toronto last week the following planks were added to the platform of the party East Huron Liberals. ARCH. UMW', M, P, P„ TUE NOM. A ballot was taken as to who would be otiose° as candidate and the present well known member, Archie Hielop, received the unanimous nomination. Mr. Hielop was called to the platform and reoeived with cheers. He returned thanks for the Honore oonferred upon him daring the past seven years and more particularly for the confidence reposed in him in this Convention. In following the leederahlp of snob men as Hon. 0. Mowat, Hon. A. S. Hardy, and the present able Premier, Hon. G. W. Roes, he, telt he was following able, progressive men with high alms end ample proofs of their capabilities aa Ontario m ateemen. On o wastbe banner Prov• 'done of the Dominion and although an even start was made at Confederation this Proviooe bad distanced them all. Mr. Hielop referred to the reoord of the Liberal and Conservative parties see to corrupt praatioes and stated that in the past 82 years in Ontario out of 622 Liberal members 27 were unseated while out of 425 Qouservativea 88 had been naked to step down or about 5% of the former to 10% of the latter. The Liberal party did not uphold wrong doing but the above facts would show Beet the Opposition, who assume to speak so loudly of purity an only belong. ing to their party were Barely nob acgnainted with the records. The Liberal Convention just over in Toronto vise spoken of and the proposed Temperance legislation exph, ioed. Gamey's pedigree was stated and the disreputable oonree he followed in de- °eying the jadgee for stating that his °bargee stood disproved was est out. Years ago Mowed, Hardy and other prominent Liberate had been hounded by the Opposition party and press but these same people were ready to ging their praises and speak of their virtues when they were removed by death. Fattening Poultry Por Christmas. Well 11•±ohod poultry at a superior grade is always iu demand for the Wichita -las market end oommande a prion very mole larger in proportion than dome that of an Warier slaw. Chickens intended for the Chrietmas market should be shut up in fattening orates or in a pen from two to three weeke previoae to the time they are to be killed. A seven foot orate will bold twelve Wakens, or a stall eight by ben feet will hold twenty, Choose good healthy °biokeus of one of thu general 9009055 or meat produoing breads, such as Plymouth Rooks, Wyandottee, Orping• tons, 510. A chicken weighing about four pounds feeds more eoonomioally than a larger bird, because it develops as it is fattening, although birds weighing five, six, or seven pounds can be placed in good oondition for killing in two weeps, Before tieing cooped the obiokene should be dusted with insect powder ,to kill the vermin, For the first twenty-four boars after the birds are cooped they should be fed very little, and throughout the Grab week light feeds at frequent intervals should be the rule. Heavy feeding during the first three or tour days usually sickens the obiokene and prevents them from doing well afterwards.. At this season of the year the days are so short that not more Iban three feeds eau be given. During the eecand week the chickens shonld be given all they will rat twine a day, grit being eapplied mice or twice a weep. The following rations have been need with good results - 2 parts each of barley meal, corn meal and shorts ; and 1 part each of finely ground oats and animal meal. If the animal meal i0 not to be bad, skim-mi'k will answer, preferably sour. 2 parts of Dorn meal, 2 of grouud buckwheat, 1 of finely ground oats whioh is mixed with milk, or about 12% of animal meal, if milt is not nvailabie. Another v, ry good ration is ground oats 4 parts, ground barley 8 parte, animal meal 1 part. Deoks wbieb are being fattened should be kept from the stream or pond end confined to small yards. They can be fattened on whole grain verytnioely, peas, corn and wheat being the best grains. Iooredible I the tale is false, eh 1 neelees to deceive, Onr lingering hopes fast disappear, we must at last believe ; Friend frowns at friend, Grit sighs to G. it, they knew no woes till now ; With lowly bead and quivering breath they faintly murmur "How ?" "How atm it be ?" lint to my tale, 'its simple, plain sod right, It may console the vanquished hoot who went down in the fight. Said farmer Brown to farmer Smith "The Grits will rale the day," "I have no need for votio'," "Ale and Jook at home shall stay." But neighbor Reilly, Ohieholm's men, be be winked and grinued and sped. He took tile wagon to the poll with Jim and 33i11 and Ted ; The counts are made, ilk polls are closed the awful news flies fast, "Mercy on fie 1" "Help," "Murder," sure MacDonald lives his last. Away down in a euuny land, they call it Huron South, Where Fraser with tie iron nerve bad braved the omi meo's month : The fiery Gann was tally obarged and on November three The awful thing discharged tie shot and Fraser ceased to be. Have men no knowledge iu their heads ? It surely is not so In good old Huron oounty, that the Grits are in the "snow." Let one minds be still a moment let our beerts be free from oars, We shall turn our tear -worn eye lids to a land of beauty rare ; Barely here that mac "Sir Wilfrid" shell the proper wee, be seat, And the Oonnty'e reputation surely here shall not be spent ; All I the loftiest hopes do crumble, Lewis was the man to blame, One more gone for Boron's glory, let as hide ourselves for shame. 0 I for the times of long ago; the times when mighty Brown, With Hardy, Blake, McKenzie, other vioborai;of renown, The country carried with them, and their fume to Huron spread ; But alas those good old times are not, those heroes now are dead ; And everything ie altered so ; the Liber• ale of old Would neer believe that Huron to the Tories oouid be Bold. Snob feed shon'd be put in a trough or pan end covered with water to a dep'h of two or three inoltee. The tiuoke appeal to relish the food better whoa given in tibia manner, Ground oorn and °noels in the proportion et 8 of porn to 1. of shorts wet with milk maims a good ration. If roster is added, meet meal or cooked liver, or other refuse meat meet be need. Turkeys that are intended for Ohriet. m di trade timid be brought in from the fields about three weeks preview to mar• t sting time, and during this period they should be fed with corn once or twine a day. They may ale° be fed a mash 000• elating of 2 parte of Dorn meal, 1 of shorts, 1 of oats, and 1 of beef scrap, but if 53011 milk is in abundance, the meat may be dropped. Small boiled potatoes age also a very valuable addition to the ration. Turkeys should not be confined too closely, A large shed is perhaps the ideal plane fur fetlentng purposes.
