The regular monthly meeting of the
W. C. T. U. will be held on Friday

SEVERAL of the men who were work-
ing on the new skating rink here have
gone to Mitchell to lend a hand where
the same proprietors have another con-
tract.

A RAID was made on the poultry
house of Geo. Edwards one night last
week and several fowl and a deck stol-
en. The headless body of one of the
former was found on Mill' street West of
the Public Library. Clue may yet be
secured that may bring the guilty ones
to justice.
JUBILEE SINGERS.- Be sure you hear
the Canadian jubilee Singers, Wednes-
day evening, December 2oth. They
give a choice selection of solos, duets,
quartettes and choruses. Their singing is
soul -stirring ; their fun delightful, clean

SOLD oUT IN CLINTON,-- The New
Era of last week says :--"On Monday
of this week G. L. Walker sold out his
livery business to Hiram Hill, of town,
who took possession at once. Mr.
Walker wishes to thank the citizens of
Clinton, through the New Era for their
patronage during the five years he has
been in business and hopes it may con-
tinue with the new proprietor, Mr.
Walker will remain in town for the
time being as he is undecided where he
will locate." Mr. Walker was a former
resident of Brussels and we would not
object to have bin come back,
SALT BLOCK BOUGHT. -Alfred Backer,
of Brussels, has purchased the Ransford
salt block also the 14 or more acres ad-
joining and belonging to the works.
The purchaser is at present making in-
quiries as to getting the well clear of the
obstruction and may arrange to get the
industry going. There was many a
thousand barrel and sack of prime salt
shipped from this block since its open-
ing by the late F. C. Rogers and we
dare say as good a product as ever may
be secured for many years to come.
The distance from the G. '1'. R. necessi-
tates a long haul of both salt and coal
but this may be obviated by putting up
a block alongside the railway and
piping the brine to it. We wish Mr.
Baeker success in his enterprise and
hope the forthcoming revenue may be
larger than ever from the saline sub-
stance found in all its purity,
MUNICIPAL FINANCIAL STATEMENT, -
The time for getting out municipal
financial .statements, which is always
limited enough, being between De-
cember 15th and nomination day, which
ca.is the last Mouday in December, is cur-

Hockey team in town for this Winter ?
League schedules are being arranged
and if Brussels is to be represeuted it is
time a move was made. The rink will
soon be ready for flooding so that prac-
tice could begin as soon as ice was
ready. There are some lively puck
ebasers in Brussels and the way to
develop new blood is to get a team in
shape,

REV, MR. ANDREWS DEAD. -RFV, G.
W. Andrews, B. A., who three years
ago was superannuated by the Methodist
church, died Tuesday afternoon at
Aylmer. The deceased who was in his
sixty-first year had been suffering for
some time past from paralysis. Rev.
Mr, Andrews was well known in West-
ern Ontario, where he bad held many
charges, He is survived by a wife and
two daughters, Mrs. Hicks, of 'Toronto,
and Miss Andrews at bome. Rev. J.
W. Andrews, of Fordwich, is a brother.
Rev. Mr. Andrews lived in Brussels at
one time,
DIED SUDDENLY. -W. H. Gilpin,
druggist at Scotland, was found dead
in his store Monday morning, when
friends became alarmed owing to the
store not being opened as usual. Mr.
Gilpin lived alone. When found he
had been dead several hours. He ap-
peared to be in the best of health late
Saturday night, Relatives of St. Marys,
Wiarton and Brussels were summoned
Deceased was a brother to J. J. Gilpin,
of town. His wife died some years ago.
She was a Miss Meghan, of St. Marys.
'They had no family. Mr. Gilpin lived
in London for a number of years and
was widely known. He was born In
Blanshard township, Perth Co,
BUa1NEss MEN MEET. -At a meeting
called by the Reeve, and held in the
Council Chamber, on the evening of
Friday 17th inst., a committee of is of
the leading business men was appointed
to look after the business interests of
the village. Committee met on Mon
day evening when some important
matters.in connection with manufactur-
ing were discussed but not finally de-
cided and the committee meets again on
Monday evening, 27th inst, at 8 p. m.

chased by Cleve, J, Denhow, recently of
Winnipeg, who is an old Brussels boy..
Mr. D.nbow is now in possession. He
learned his trade in the same shop about
2 years ago. We wish him success and
believe he will do well. Cleve. is a son
of the late Wm Denbow, formerly of
Brussels, who died in the West some
time ago.

he and Mrs, Donaldson will spend the
Winter in Huron Co., if not a longer
period. Mr. Donaldson is said to. have
done well in the West.

Maitland Presbytery will meet in
Wingham on Thursday, December 7th.
The Bible Society collectors will wait
on you some day soon so be ready to
welcome them.
The A. X. P. A will meet for a
social evening at the Rectory Friday
evening, 24th inst.
The regular literary meeting
of the W. A. of St. John's church takes
place this afternoon (Thursday) at
the home of Mrs. Kelly.
Rev. Dr. Barber, of Listowel, will
preach tbe anniversary sermons in the
Methodist church on Sabbath, Decem-
ber 07th, He is said to be a fine preach-
er.
Last Sabbath Rev. Mr. Wootton, of
Stratford, gave two Missionary address-
es in the Methodist church that were
closely followed by the congregations
morning and evening and were most
appropriate to the occasion. This was
the reverend gentleman's initial visit to
town but we hope it will' not be his last.
While in town Rev, Mr. Wootton was
the guest of Alfred and Mrs. Seeker at
their comfortable home, Tureberry
street.
The annual meeting of the Ontario
Lord's Day Alliance will be held in the
Metropolitan church, Toronto, Friday,
December 1st, opening at ro a, m.
Three live addresses are programmed by
Prof. J. H. Palmer, L. L D„ Rev S.
P. Rose, D. D.. and Rev. W. M,
Rochester, B. A., in addition to the
usual routine business of such a gather
ing. Delegates are invited from the
