It is thought the fire was incendiary. The loss will be quite heavy, partly covered by insurance. Rev. W. McLean, who has been sta- tioned at. Waubuno for the past three years, has left there and was inducted into the Hanover charge, where the work will not be as strenuous its on the two charges he has just left. A meeting of the Town Council was held to consider a proposition from the Western Foundry Co. The busi- ness of the Co. is developing to such au extent that they cannot keep pace with the orders and a new site and larger buildings are a necessity. _ On behalf of the Co. the Board of Trade recommended the following proposi- tion the Town grant the Co. $750 towards the purchase of a new five acre site ; a loan of 810,000 ; give exemption from taxation for ten years (except school and county rates) and a fixed assessment of $15,000. The Co. to build and equip a new foundry, employ 150 hands ale first year an 200 the second. They confidently ex- pect that 300 men will be necessary. The loan to be repaid in annual instal- ments of $500 for nine years and the balance the last year.
