In a number of eaeea local deinolrstra-

enough ahead to be able to do so.
The date is December; 12th.
It does good to rub shoulders with
good stockmen, to see the exhibits
and where the awards go and ascer-
tain the reasons for so doing.
How. A. G. MACKAY worked in-
dustriously and spent many a day in the
interest of the Liberal party and .in. the
House was well able to defend the cause
he represented, We are glad to know
that he will seek reelection in North
Grey and, although not the leader, will
probably sit in the next parliament.

It is a very
inopportune season of the year, bad
roads, cold nights, rush of Christmas
trade, etc , but Hon, Mr. Whitney says
it had to be done to save the expense of
the bye elections even if the last Elec-
tion were only held in June 1908.
Now let us square away for a good
Fall trade. By everybody trading at
home, as far as their needs can be
supplied, an impetus is given to busi-
ness not occasioned when money is
sent away. The business man is en-
couraged when he sees his invest-
meots in large stocks, &c, are appre-
ciated and is ready to venture into a
wider range so as to suit the purchas-
ers he banks upon.
Do you patronize the Public Libr-
ary within your reach ? Many a topic
of great service in the coming days
s
might beascertained by knocking at
the door of some good book on the
subject. What's your hobby ? You
can be accommodated by books on
almost every question of interest and
it is up to you to be an authority on
what may be your specialty. Not for
parade or display but for the satisfac-
tion of acquiring the knowledge and
for the good others plight receive by
our acquaintance with it.
Tats would be a good time to launch
a live debating Society and thereby
aid the young people of the communi-
ty in acquiring ability to publicly ex-
press their thoughts intelligently and
also to attract attention to a course of
good reading along lines of general
utility, Many a young man who has
risen to prominence in the world
commenced his oratorical efforts in a
very modest way and with little
thought of attaining eminence. To-
day there are many reasons why ad-
vantage should be taken of the liter-
ary clubs so that the embryotic vocal-
ist, elocutionist and speaker may em.
ploy and improve their talents. Get
busy.
DOMhnotr Parliament will convene
on Wednesday, November 15th. Ib
will be a busy session, particularly
among the Ministers w ho will be ini-
tiated into the actualities of office.
Hon. Geo. E. Foster is the only office
holder who was there before although
others have filled public posts under
Provincial Legislatures. There was a
disposition on the part of some politi-
cal bigots to make a sweep of Liberal
office -holders but we are pleased to
know that wiser counsel prevails.
'The party who does the "bouncing"
generally offends more by opening the
office than if the old official were left
in the
position as only one can get the
plum while there may be a score or
more seeking it. Where an official
makes himself obnoxious by flying his
party colors on all occasions and busies
]himself in a campaign it would not be
la surpriseif he got a "walk" but
otherwise the practice has not been
for wholesale decapitation.

At fhe South Huron Liberal Con-

which nominated Edmund Zeller, of

adopted : "Resolved, that this Con-

South Huron desires to express its
pleasure upon the selection of Newton
Rowell, K. C., of Toronto, as Provin-

carrying forward the principles of the
Reform party in Ontario." When this
resolution was moved by J. G. Stan -
bury, of Exeter, and J. K. Kellerman, of
Dashwood, it received the unanimous
endorsation of the large Convention, the
delegates being enthusiastic over the
news from Toronto. The Convention
was attended by over one hundred
delegates. and a splendid fighting spirit
was evidenced. President Harry
Smith, of Hay township, was in the
chair and was one of those nominated.
Others similarly honored were Alex.

of Hensall. In brief but optimistic.

Weather For November
A, regular storm period is in ',progress
as we pass from October Into Novemoer.
Cloudiness, with progressive rain, turn-
ing in the West and North to snow, will
visit melt parts on the 1St, end and
erd, Rising barometer and colder,
clearing weather will follow these storms
for several days.
A reaotiouary storm period falls oa
5th , 6th and 7th, coincident with ful
moon on the 6th. Pilis period will bring
the regular swing of the barometer
change to warmer, South winds and
etoudluesa and rain. Western sides of
storm areas, will bring rising barometer,
snow and change to colder, Central on
the 6th and extending from the 3rd to
the 8th, constitutes a' regular seismic
period.
A regular storm period extends froth
the 9th to the 13th,' being central on the
rah. While this period will bring regu.
lar changes to storm rm coud¢iona the in-
dications are that disturbances will be
normal and light The !regular change
to cooler, clearing weather will follow.
A reactionary storm period failing on
the 160, r7th and 18th, will bring recur-
rence of falling barometer, ter warmer
weather, cloudiness
and
precipitation.
Electrical storms will
be natural
ou and
about the 16th. This period will be
followed byonlymoderate change to
cooler, with bright Autumnal weather:
A regular storm period covers the Both.
to 25th. The new moon on the aoth
will precipitate low barometer, change
to warmer, cloudiness and rain at the
beginning of this period. During Tues-
day the 21st, to Friday the 24th, An.
tumnal rains will pass Eastwerdly over
the country,' but the Western flanks of
storm areas will bring rising barometer,
change to Westerly winds and ver, de-
cided squalls of snow and sleet, all fol-
lowed by an early blast of boreal weath-
er out of the Northwest. A seismic
period is central_ on the aoth covering
the 17th to the 23rd,.
A reactionary storm period is central
on the 27th, 28th and 2915, This period
comes under the influence of the Mer-
cury equinox and will most probably
bring storms of Autumnal rain and
wind, merging into 'sleet and snow, as
storm areas advance from West to East.
There are no unusual reasons except
abnormal storms and the month of
November promises to bring more than
an average of fair and pleasant weather.
The precipitation of rain and snow will
be below the average, generally. The
storm periods will however, be distinct-
ly marked by the regular changes, with
more or less rain, sleet and snow. The
month will close with Mercurial cloudi-
ness and much colder threatening
weather,
