WHAT about the Senate ? With a
Conservative Government and a Liberal
Senate there is a chance for disagree-
ment upon public questions and may
possibly result in an early move for re-
modelling. We still think as we did be-
fore that if not wiped out altogether it
should be made elective, with an age
limit.
ALL loyal Canadians will welcome to
this Dominion our new Governor
General -the Duke of Connaught and
family. We hope be will fill the bill as
well as Earl Grey who has made many

terest he took in all that concerned the

GET ready for a long bard Winter, so
say Weather prognosticators who have
closely watched the habits of red squir-
rels and chipmunks. This Fall these
animals are said to be industriously
working laying in large supplies before
Jack Frost puts on the pinch. No
harm in being ready anyhow.
THE Connaugbts have arrived in
Ottawa and with them 28 servants, three
Aid -db -camps and 221 pieces of baggage.
;there are a couple of members of the
family to come yet so the rest of the
trunks, valises. band boxes, shawl straps,
bird cages, etc., will likely come with
them. We expect there will be a strik-
ing "newness" about this country to the
newcomers.
THE Borden Government will have

\MONTREAL Builders' Exchange have
'adopted a movement that might be
copied with good effect in many other
places. Following a luncheon on Wed-
nesday of each week, during the Winter
season, a 15 minute "Business Talk"
will be given hyexperts on various
phases of their calling. These will no

P
of real pt`aactical value. One evening
each week devoted to topics of useful-
ness and general interest would place
a large fund of information at the dis-
• pont of those who availed themselves
of it. Here's a hint that might be taken
hold of by Public Library Boards,
Fanners' institute Directors, School
Boards, etc.
What can be done to improve the
groWtil and development of Brussels ?
This is a question of moment to the
people who have investments in property
to the business men and to the maul
factories, Some say "I guess I can
stand it if others can" but that's a poor
ti excuse to put up in answer to the query.
Others are ready to make a move for-
ward if they knew what Was best to de
' in promoting the best interests of the
, place along lines of permanent improve-
ment. Who will be the Moses to lead
the way ? The organization of a Susi-
ne5s Mons' Association would °table the
discussion of certain featuresP on
u
which the judgment of such a body
could be expressed. Who is working to
draw business to the town? Other
towns are on the alert why not Brussels?

have troubles of his own.
Biliousness is due to a discolored
condition of the stomach. Cham-

stomach medicine, intended especial-

strengthen it, tone and invigorate it,
to regulate the liver and to banish
biliousness positively and effectually.

made by one of them to quash the
conviction which was heard in Toronto
before Justice Middleton in chambers
when the conviction was quashed on
the ground that it stated that the de-
fendant interfered with andel obstruct-
ed the complainant in the exercise of
his powers as a surveyor, without
showing the section of the Act under
which he was exercising such power's,
or mentioning the section which con-
fers such power. The objection being
of a technical character, no coats of
the application were allowed. The
result of the order is to leave the
parties just where they were before
the information was laid. The de-
cision does not affect the cases still
pending before the magistrate against
the same defendants Inc a subsequent
