L ONVENTI.ON The Conveellon held In Irthel on fl'bnrsday, Sept. 14th was good Pram the opening devotional exercises ata 30 by the Rev, L ,A. Vntallter, right throttgb ench number until the • closlug 13enedie• ' tion was pronounced. Those who could have attended crud clid not missed one • of the golden' opportunities of life Rev. leWren, M. A. ofeethel, was the first speaker. His gnbjeot was ".A. cum - partitive study of S. Sstatistics for the district sue plans for the year's work," The statistics thew 3,699 scholars en. rolled in our Sunday Snhoois with 454 teachers out of which there are onit 83 teachers taking teetraining course, There are et7 schools, only x of an in- crease over lust yenr. The speaker pointed opt the fact that this was not as it should be and that while their was a sligttt'increase our Sunday Schools were not taking the advsuced ground they should, back of spirituality was the main key note to the situation that Rev, Wren slightly touched on, shortening his address so as to give Rev. Byron Snell more time on his subjects as they REV. D. WREN, M. A. District S. School Secretary. were so closely allied. Rev.J. L Coo of Bluevale, then en ad tressed the $ th e i0 on" uConference Sunday Soho Motto," dealing witb its three division Trained teachers from Sunday School $t a year per member for Missions an Christian worker who is one willing put their Full time and energy in Christ's service. He divided bis sub7'e thus (tj How may we hest serve th Sabbath School ? (2) How may the S. best serve the living God? H thoughts were live and earnest. fulfill our motto we must have activit in the S. S. which activity produc strength. What we need is consecrate energy, consecrated means and San day Schools in the homes. If in th homes the Sunday School is revere and loved and the children taught i advantages and blessings there woul be no need of forcing children to the 8 S. The girls and boys of our land ar bright and intelligent and on the lookou fos the best .tgoingand if rightly tau h g and a Godi example set before Y them a the proper age there is no danger o losing them from the S. S. This address was followed by a dis cussion led by Rev. S. Jefferson, wh has come into our Conference this las year from Nova Scotia. He referred t the slump in church membership an claimed it was due to the S. S. Hi idea was to change the motto round an put $1 per member as the first clause claiming that if a child, man or wom an is giving he takes a more vital ioteres and the other clauses of the matte naturally follow. This led into a splen- did discussion on the need of trained workers. So intense grew the interest in the need, its failure in the past, its every increasing' need today and no ray of sunshine through the cloud of failure g wbere it had been tried and the lack of interest where it hadn't. Rev. Byron Snell, of Kirkton, was called to the plat- form to diagnose the case and treat it as a specialist, which indeed he did. Rev. Mr. Snell commands attention the moment you look into his face, which is full of strength and intellectuality and belonging n toaman 0instinctively ;: gu feel Y you could trust. At one moment be would have his audience all smiles and the next you'd feel that little catch is your throat and your eyes would be wet with tears. He just seemed to be handling the heart strings of life. One of his fitst questions was this, "Are our Leagues and Sunday Schools studying the word of God as they ought and if not why ?" There he claimed, came the great need for trained workers. No factor could be run successfully c .e Yt ssfuii with- out n - v h Y out a proper e1. p p business management and men who know bow to work. Wes it any wonder that iu all the big things of life men and women had to be trained for their work. Our S. S. fell short of this mark. When man and women to- day dealing with the most important erotic in the world. that of leading and teaching precious souls to Christ should go at the work often with little or no training whatever, The speaker paid respect to the work done in the past but he said if we are to hold our country for God, we have to get hold of the youth yotl have in the S. S. and this can only be done by trained and efficient workers, Be made the statement that there is nothing we cannot have in the next 25 years if Christian men and lwomen of oar land begin now in the Sunday School. We fell'short of our privilege through lack of our business methods. No League or 8. S. could expect to ad. He said that years ago wh this century was new, a lad was help! his father carr material v ,a for a built to 1 and as the lads arms were trot stron nor his muscles developed but his fath needed his help so he fashioned a rud barrow by means of erose sticks uncle neath which he put a long handle giving his son the long end of the handle. So he said Christ reaches down to his christian workers on earth the long end of the handle to help us lift the world to the feet of His Father in Heaven, Melvin Stemmon, Ethel, next intro• limed the subject "Young Men's Bible Classes in Rural S. S," Right here let ne say I think we should be ashamed with the record our school has to let Ethel outdo us the way they stave done u this regard. I think we should have a splendid class right here at home. They have a class at Ethel of over 30 egular attenders, ranging in age from 6 upwards. They have it well organiz d and equipped, 'riles, are known as he Y. M. B. `. which (. htch the have en- v rave on d their clan . s pin which they alt wear. Their motto is "Muscle, Mind, nd Morals." The secret of their sue. ess is this which they try to live up to raternity, unity, harmony and business^ ke management, Mr. Slenlmon de. tared it was easier to get a young man o go to the Y. M. S. C. than If you ere merely asking him to' go to S. , He said the first essential to success ora class of this kind was a teacher So was white clear through, for no one aid he, will find out quicker if a person saying one thing and living another ban a boy for they just happen to know. This class endeavors to supply amuse- ent for its members in every way ossible. They have football games nd parties every once in awhile, such Valentineparties,Halloween en parties, c., to which they invite their sisters d a friend. Recently they laid to rest ne of their oldest members who was efirst to break their ranks. At his neral the class formed a guard of nor and dropped the class pin into s grave. In this class they have a ale choir, which by the way gave us i• us cel number in S the evening service, ce, d when they finished singing Rev. r. Hibbert, of Gerrie, who was chair - an, took a look at them and said "05 I had but the power 1 would just putt y arms about you alt and transport you Gorrie." Rev. Mr. Wren laughingly marked, that he thought Rev. Mr, bbert said he would transport them to Glory, whereupon Mr. Hibbert tie- red that Gorrie was next thing to ory. The first address of the evening was Rev. Geo.McKinley, :lav, of Luckaow on Phe Relation of the Hoty Spirit to the rk of the Sunday Senool." This was very strong, spiritual address. He alt with the subject first in what way es the Spirit of God affect the scholar the class ; and the teacher should he re because God called them there. e way to know the call was having ability for the work and realizing the ed. Failure came from not knowing source of power, He laid great ess on the teacher being filled with Holy Spirit so es to have power with class, the putting under' of self and striving after that fuller knowledge of d's word, He said that through lack sympathy we fail and referred to ter's dealing with Cornelius, It was so mach that the pupils grasped the ers by ted the the ger in res ne u til 1.l ch in ed nd P• nc1 as 1,. Two mills might grinde t wheat of the same quality and the product of one far outclass the other. It is not only the high quality of the hard wheat used, but also the superior milling facili- ties, that places "PURITY” flour so far above all others. Our milling plant at St. Boni- face, oniface, Manitoba, cost nearly $i,000,000, and is one of the most perfectly equipped mills in the world. The wheat itself is subjected to the most won- derful system of cleaning and scouring, passing through twenty distinct machines. Fifty-five steel rollers, the largest in Canada, reduce the wheat into flour. Then it is purified and dressed by "bolt- ing" it through silk sifters of fine mesh. Not a "branny" particle or speck of dust is ever found in "Purity" Flour. You may have to pay a little more for Purity, but baking results, quality and quantity, prove itis worth far more than the slight difference.
