fered for sale last Saturday afternoon to
close up the estate but was not sold. It
is well situated and may be disposed of
by private sale. Barrister Hays, of
Seaforth, formerly of town, was here in
the interest of the Executors. Old time
friends were glad to greet him once
sabre.
Pumsc LIBRARY.- Commencing on
Tuesday of next week the regular hours
will be observed at the Public Library,
the Summer short hours arrangement
having been completed. The public
will find the Library and Reading Room
at their disposal and if you wish to
favor the officiary you cannot do it better
than by evidencing a deeper interest in
the welfare of this institutioe.

delightful trip down the St. Lawrence
as far as Quebec and spent some time
sightseeing en route, Have just return-
• ed from a short visit from Beaverton and
in a couple of weeks turn Brusselsward.

LAURIER AT STRATPORD.-Friday of
next week at Stratfold a public meeting
will -be held at Stratford to be addressed
by Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Hon. Geo. P.
Graham, Hon. MacKenzie King, Hugh
Guthrie, of Guelph, and other leading
Liberals. Single fare tickets will be
issued for the round trip. No doubt a
large number from this locality will go
to Stratford to hear Canada's Premier
on this occasion, It will be a great
gathering.

finefis, of Brussels Creamery, shipped
325 boxes of choice butter to London at
240 per pound. Geo. Powell, ot Blyth
was the buyer. This week too boxes of
pound prints were sold to a Toronto
dealer at 25 cents per peued. Brussels
factory mut compete with any similar in-
stitution in Westerly Canada. The
average make, even at this season, will
run over a ton of butter per day.

Miss RIA BRINE DECEASED. -Monday
orthis week Miss Ria Brine, daughter
of'Mrs. T. P. Brine, of Seaforth, and
sister to Mrs. P, Scott, of Brussels, was
called away from time. She had been in
failing health for some time. The
funeral took place on Wednesday after-
noon. Miss Brine was a fine young
woman who enjoyed the friendship of a
wide circle of friends. She was no
stranger to Brusselites who regret to
bear of her demise and tender sympathy
to the bereaved.

Scott, of Brussels, will also join the
great artny of pedagogues, whose reeks
are not strong enough _to command all
the situations, and take a school
near Auburn, Huron Co. He will re-
ceive $50o per annum and will begin
teaching Tuesday of next week. We
wish the boys first-class success.

removed Thursday of last week. We

Lesa Vale, owned by W. F. Scott,
Ottawa, and driven by P. Scott, Brus-
sels, took the 2 23 trot in straight beats,
time being 2 24, 2.22i and 2 24. 'Mire
were 5 in the event. The Toro to
Globe says ;-In the .2.23 trot Lesa Vale
went a grand race winning the third
heat by half a head from "Princess
Eleanor." This speedy mare will be
campaigned at a number of large meets.

DEATH OP CAPT? MCLAREN.-Follow-
lag notice refers to the father of our
townsman, G. N. McLaren :-The death
of Capt. Duncan IvIeLaren, took place
very suddenly on Thursday, evening,
July 57111, after a short illness': Though
for some time past he had not been feel-
ing' well, nothing serious was anticipated
and about two weeks before when he
went with Ins wife and daughter to
Wasago Beach, near Stayner, in the
hope that the chauge would be beneficial
to bis health, However he grew worse -
and the end came quietly, the, remains
being brought beck to Alliston on Fri-
day. The late Mr. McLaren was born
near Bothwell, seventy-six years ago.
In 1863 he was married to Miss Kathrine
Henderson and they removed to Rose.

tery on Saturday afternoon and was
largely attended, Rev. Mr. Ellison con-
ducting the service at the home. The

R. J. McLauchlin was away for an en-

he encompassed Owen Sound, Port
