BRUssELS LIBERALS.— A meeting of
the Liberals of Brussels will be held in
the Council Chamber Friday evening of
next week, at 8 o'clock, to elect delegates
to Centre Huron Liberal Convention,
which meets the following day in Sea -

Saturday evening a
very strenuous game of Foot Ball was
played on Victoria Park, Brussels, be-
tween Moncrieff and the 6th line ot
Morris clubs. The latter won by 2.0.
Referee Hawkshaw had a busy time in
controlling the match.
ANNUAL meeting of the Canadian Press
Association will convene in Toronto
next week. After two days' business
Thursday and Friday will be spent in
au excursion to the Georgian Bay locali-
ty, both land:and "sea" being included
in the itinery.
CORONATION DAY.—Thursday of next
week, zzud inst., will he Coronation Day,
and will be observed as a Public Holi-
day. Business places will be closed ;
except the postoffiee at which the hours
will beg to to a. m, and 5 to 6 p. m.,

R. Saturday morning of last week.
They took train at Walton. Excursion
was from Listowel and intervening
points and nearly toxo were aboard, a
large proportion being children The
day was fine, Goderich at its best and
with the fine 33rd Batt Band, program,
etc., a good time was spent. Train left
at 6.3o p. m. on the home trip.
PROPERTY BOUGHT. -Last Monday,
Alex, Smith, of Hullett, purchased a
house and ; acre lot from W. H. Kerr,
located on John street, and also the
vacant J lot immediately South and a
house and lot on James street abutting
the other property from George Mul-
doon. The frame building on the latter
• will be utilized for stable, hen hoose,
&c. Mr, Smith will take up his resi-
dence next Fall and will have a cosy
home. He purposes making some im-
provements. '

Nominating Convention at Wingham
Friday afternoon of next week to choose
a candidate for the Legislature, Among
other names mentioned is that of ex -

The Conservative nominee will no doubt

grove, of Wingham, and as the Whitney
Government carved out this riding as a
safe seat the Liberal standard bearer will

forth. It is net likely W, Proudfoot,
141, P. P., of Goderich, will have any op-
position in the list of nominees. His re-

of Brussels Women's Institute will be
held at the home of Mrs. Wm. Rands,
opening at 2 3o o'clock. A paper will
be read followed by the Roll call in
which each member is asked to give a
recipe or ask a question in response to
their name. Those wtlo usually attend
are expected and those who attend ir-
regularly are urged to be present.
SEAFORTH WON THE ROUND. — The
4th and last game of junior Foot Ball for
this District was played at Seaforth
Wednesday evening between the team
of that town and Brussels, Seaforth
winning by 2 o. This gives the victors
the District by 1 goal on the round and
will send them into the semi-finals with
Atwood. There were only 3 goals
scored in 4 games ; between Brussels
and Seaforth and the latter got 2 of
them so there was not much to conte or
go on. Our boys play very good ball
just the same. This will likely finish
the football season here.
BRUSSELS SCHOOL CONTINUES IN AP-
PROVED -LIST. -W. H. Cowley, Inspector
of Continuation classes, visited Brussels
school on Thursday, June 8th. He
found everything in excellent condition
and decided that our school was worthy
of retaining its position on the Approved
List. Both teachers and pupils of Con-
tinuation Classes will learn with regret
that Mr. Cowley is soon to resign his
