ful medical operation for appendicitis.

During` the:service in Kook church
here last Sabbath afternoon the
violence of the wind threatened dant-
age to the building. , It -had been
shifted from its -old site to make room
for the new edifice and was not very
solidly placed, hence the tornado gave
it quite a shunt,
Bea& BuRNEo.-The bank barn be-
longing to George McTaggart, East
Lot 23, COIL 15, was destroyed. by
lightning last Sunday afternoon a-
bunt 3. o'clock. Mr. McTaggart was
at church but.Miss Jane Fulton, who
lives ab Mr. McTaggart's, pluckily got
out the horses and calves before the
buildiug fell. Barn was 66x56 feet and
was insured in the Howiek Mutuah
So rapidly did the fire spread tire
whole building was a roaring furesehe
a minute or two after the clash. One
calf made its escape after roof fell and
the pigs gained their liberty when the
flames had burned offkloor of the pen.
About 135 bushels of Fall Wheat, hay,
oats, etc. were burned. Tuesday
President Miller and Vice 'President

once Co. made the necessary inspection
and will present the claim at the next'
meeting on the 24thinst. The amount
of insurance carried was $1200. With
the scarcity and increased price of
building material and wages the fire
will be a heavy loss to M. alo'Paggart.
It was fortunate however that at this
season barns aria :stables are compara-
tively empty as compared with other
periods.

lightning last Sunday as was a steer,

SCHOOL PICNIC. -The annual picnic
of S. S. No. 8 will he held on Friday,
June 30th, in the grove on H. At-
twood's farm. There will be rare
sport in Foot Ball and Base Ball
matches, races, swings, etc. Lunch
will be served. There will also be a
refreshmeut booth on the grounds.

HURON COUNTY COUNCIL
The dune session of Huron county
o xurcil opened in the overt house on
Tuesday afternoon of 'sat week, With
the exception of Mr. Sweitzet', of Step -
lieu, who arrived on Wednesday, All tee
members were present and after each.

Warden Geiger, in his opening re-
marks made fitting reference to the
much lamented removal. by death of the
late Inspector Robb; who had been called
away since the last session ot the Coun-
cil. He referred to him as one who en-

knew him throughout the county, es-
peclally those '1n tite East riding, the
field of his labors for so want, years.
B. Walker, manager of Sterling Bank
at Goderiob, sent a communication ask-
ing that at least one half of the county's
account be transferred to the Sterling
Bank. It was argued that the numerous
branches of the institution which bad
been established throughout the county
entitled the [lank to some of the comity
btasiuess. Rtquest was granted.
Huron County Rifle League asked
that annual grant of $75 to the League'
be increased to,$too, The reason given
for this request was that League had
grown to representover r,000 men and
officers wished t i offer more encourage-
ment to the young men to be marksmen.

The Public hchool Board of Clinton
sent a request that a by-law be paved
placing the town of Clinton again im the
inspectorate of East Huron. The letter
stated that the change ,whereby the
town was placed in the West Huron in.
spectorate was made at the January
session without the knowledge of the
Clinton board and that no' opportunity
had been given to the board to enter a
protest. AS the town had always been
connected with East Huron it was held
that the former condition of Urines
should not have been disturbed, Other
reasons were submitted to show that the
former relationship with East Huron
should be resumed, and regret was ex-
pressed that frietion between the in-
spectorandteaehers had arisen.: Clin-
ton was put back into East Huron "li-
sp ectol'ate.
Good Roads Association sent a request
that a resolution be submitted to the
council to the effect that the'. improve.
ment of roads is of the utmost import-
ance and that this feeling should be
shared by all classes ; that it be resolvent,
that the Ontario Government be mem-
orialized to adopt a system for the im.
prevenient of highways on a provincial
plan.
Secretary of Winter Fair, which is ,
held at Guelph in December, asked in a
letter that council offer a special prize.;is
