'c1 U,RSDAY, JUNE £6, 19io
Newell Heron jAberel Association
will hold its annual meeting in the "frown
Ball, Wingbain, Tuesday afternoon of
next week, zest inst., at 2 o'clock,
There should be a good rally,
ClOARETIg Gelling Io minors and the
DSO of the wale by the letter has not
been entirely done away with And a few
selt1Vire lessons ntay be necessary in
both Instances. There are plenty of
stumbling blocks in the pathway of the
Youth without this pron.ouoeed evil
being Allowed right of way, debasing
both body and mind.
MANY new grain' elevators will be
erected in the Great West this season
indicative of the optimistic outlook to -
Ward the coining harvest. Increased
freight car and steamboat accommoda-
tion is. else being provided 'so that the
moving out of the erop to the Eastern
markets may be facilitated. Prospects
look very favorable at this stage for a
bountiful yield ou a widely increased
acreage.
Tug Pos'r would like to see pickerel
. fry placed in the Maitland river, above
the dam, at Brussels from the Dominion
Government hatchery and would re-
commend that somebody get busy, right
away, in pressing for it. While ash are
caught in fairly good numbers.at certain
seasons this oanuot be expected to con-
tinue unless some interest is taken in
their propogation. Pickerel are
thought, by those who should speak
with authority, to be the best suited
species for the Maitland. Our friends
of the hook and line should lend a hand
in: the very modest request suggested.
Do you catch on ?
CODAL•r, the great mining camp of
Northern Ontario, is a dry town. Not
long ago some thirsty residents conceiv-
ed the idea of fetching in some wet
goods and to thwart the eagle-eyed of-
ficers of the law dsvised the use of a
coffin for transporting the "booze".
The ruse did not work however as
suspicion rested upon the black box and
investigation soon caused a resurrection
of the spirits in a way that was both ex•
pensive and unpleasant to the ingenious
law breakers, to say nothing of their
`grief over the untimely departure of the
"corpse".
Ex-PRY-sit/MT T RoosxvxLT is back
from bis adventurous and extended trip
in the East and we believe his visit will
be productive of good. While he is
somewhat curt and maybe a trifle bom-
bastic he advocates many
live. desirable
e
movements in the interests of the people
generally.Mr, Roosevelt has the
courage of his convictions and has won
.-.,-,many a victory where irresolute or
wavering dealing would have stamped
failure upon them. It should not be for-
gotten, however, that there is a wide
difference between being resolute and
attempting to boss or lord it over every-
body. The former is commendable
while the latter is abhorrent and suici-
dal. "Teddy" shows a great deal of wis-
dom and tact.
A UNION of the neighboring Rural
Telephone linesis a subject sub'e of interest
to every telephone subscriber and such
agreement should be encouraged and
''--'recommended by every user of the
various systems. It is in the interests of
all concerned and void of any desire to
monopolize or merge for mercinary pur-
poses. Great advance has been made in
the telephonic use and conditions in the
past two years and the work is only in
its initial stage yet. The more into it
the better for all and the extent of its
usefulness can only be conjectured.
Even on the farm we have heard of
short lines running from the house to
the stable and from the home to the rear
of the estate. Connecting the store,
office and factory to the residence of the
respective owner is often worth many a
dollar in a year in time and labor sav-
ing. There is a seuse in which the
members of a telephone circuit feel a
sort of tumily relationship to one an-
other and as such, many good results
accrue as an effort is made to aid in the
promotion of common interests. Talk
---up the desirability of connecting the
various independent lines so that they
may best conserve the useful mission for
which they are destined to telephone
users,
Tint question of Church Union bas
•had a very decided and significant
response by the Congregational body
whose membership bas given an out-
spoken verdict in favor of a coalition
with their brethren in the Presbyterian
and Methodist bodies, While there are
a fotvobjectors in each of the denomina-
tions considering the union, the great
majority appear to see many advantages
in Consoiidatiou. A few of these ate :—
Seeking for a united Protestantism
wording union of weak congregations
in many pieces ; freeing of pastors to
supply many new fields calling for men ;
concentration of funds for missionary,
educational and benevolent purposes;

Dat'r you think it would be a good
move to set Brussels Salt Works agoing
once more either in the present block or
in new premises ? The quality of the
saline substance here' is A i and the
quantity available beyond compare,
Bence the desirabiilty ot utilizing what
is so near at hand. As to the market
the closing of so many wells should pro-
mote the sales of those working. We
are aware that the business has been
largely "collared". through combine and
merger yet none of these thiugs put a
dollar in the pockets of Br'usselites or
the surrounding country. Mr. Rens-
ford, ot Clinton, is willing to sell the
Brussels plant, we understand and it
should be enquired into with the idea
of securing his best figures and per.
chance closing a bargain. The chief
drawback to the business here is the
lack of a railway to the plant but a
switch might be built or new building
erected near the G. T. R. that would
obviate this disadvantage, Brine could
be pumped from present well or a new
une drilled nearer location of site chosen.
This is no wildcat scheme nor fabled
fortune -maker but a plea for putting
into active operation a well known and
valuable industry within our corpora-
tion that should appeal to every
property owner of Brussels and com-
munity. Several times 'Ise POST has
broached this matter and we want back-
ing in it of the practical kind. Will you
be one of the promoters in furthering
the plan ?
lie -union of Co. Councils
Bruce and Perth the quests of Huron
At last January's session of Bruce
County Council Reeve loyut, the well
known and enterprising representative !
of Lucknow, invited the Council to the
Sepoy town for their June session and
promised them a treat if they would ac-
cept. They agreed and met last week
at Lucknow. To keep his pledge
Reeve Joynt arranged for a re.nnion
with Huron Co. Council in session at
Goderieh and the latter in turn asked
Perth Co, Council, meeting at Stratford,
to join them as the three Counties were
united in the long ago for Municipal
purposes. How Was Bruce Council,
32 members beside the officials; to get
from Lucknow to Godericb ? The first
thought was to drive the 18 miles across
the county but the men at the helm
never does thing by halves so be wrote
the Grand Trunk Raihvay and arranged
for 2 special train and having accom-
plished this he invited 140 or more
citizens of bis hustling' town, gentlemen
and ladies to accompany the Co. Coun-
cillors which request was most cheerfully
complied with. 8.3o a. m. Thursday of
last week a special passenger train, con-
sisting of 4 coaches and a baggage van,
drew tip at Lucknow platform. The
genial Conductor Totten was in charge
with Frauk Clement as brakesman, En-
gineer Phillips bolding the leaver and
Firemen McMillan feeding the iron
horse.
It was a well dressed, good looking

headed by the somewhat famous Pipers'
Band clad in natty Highiaed costume
with Alex. McPherson, resplendent

frequently sores break out over the body.
The way to heal them, as Mr. Richard
Wilson, who lives near London, Ont.,
found, is to purify the blood. Re
writes:
"For some time I had been in a low,
depressed condition. My appetite left
me and I soon began to suffer from indi-
gestion. Quite a number of small sores
and blotches formed all over my skin. I
tried medicine for the blood and used
many kinds of ointments, but without
satisfactory results. What was wanted
was a thorough cleansing of the blood,
and I looked about in vain for some medi-
cine that would accomplish this.
At last Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills
were brought to my notice, and they are
one of the most wonderful medicines I
have ever known. My blood was puri-
fied in • very short time, sores healed up,
my -indigestion vanished. They' always
have a place in my home and are looked
upon as the family remedy."
