How often we have heard of people`
who have had an aching joint or
muscle for years. No more speedy
remedy can be adopted than to rub
ou'Nerviline and then apply .a Nervi -
line Porous Plaster. At once the
muscles begin to resume their wonted
vigor and flexibility. Inflammatory
symptoms and pain • disappear. Ner-
viline Plasters can be worn by the

They etre invaluable as thousands have

they are guaranteed to permanently

Ottawa. Friday they played hosts to
the Canadian Press Association, 140
strong, who came to Cochrane by special
train, They took the train of nine heavy

ing notable as marking the first passen-

soon hopes for daily trains to Winnipeg.
Cochrane in the rough though It Is
has uatural attractions. In the very
centre of the town site lies a lake fed by
hidden springs and without an. outlet,
of several acres in extent. A beautiful
wooded and irregular shore line furnish-
es an unsurpassed natural park, for
which purpose it has been reserved.
The surface of the earth, both in town
and country, is undulating or "rolling,"
of the type familiar in the richer counties
of old Ontario. The soil is a clay loam,
showing up rich and dark, and friable
wherever exposed, mud perhaps not
quite so heavy as that found farther
South. There is no rock in this im-
mediate regions Except for Cochrane's
"clearing" and the swaths cut by the
railway, the uubrokeu virgiu forest
stretches away in all directions. Spruce
prevails with jack pine, poplar and
whttewood. The forest is not old and
consequently the trunks are nut large,
thoitgu James Lawlor, editor of the
Canadian Forestry Journal, round one
poplar cross-section with over too rings.
There are evidence of mighter• trees and
forest fires in the centuries that have
passed.
Cochrane has a public school started
by private funds, with 175 school child-
ren on the roll. There are Presby-
terian, Methodist, and Catholic church-
es. The population is French-Canadian
English speaking, Italian, and a sprink-

A year and a half ago to -day this town
was not on the map. '1'o -day it is a
thriving, bustling' community, taking on
the airs of a metropolis, basing great ex-
pectations on two facts, one that it is the
centre of a district rich 111 timber, miner-
al, water power and agricultural laud,
and second that it is the function point
of two great railways. the new National
Transcontinental building by the Do-
minion Government and the T. and N.
0., built by the Ontario Government.
Real estate always furnishes a measure
fora community's hopes. And it is but
a few months since the T. and N. 0.
Commission auctioned off the lots that
constitute the townsite of Cochrane, so
christened at that time in honor of
Ontario's minister of -Lands and Mines,
the Honorable Frank. The prices then
realized were surprisingly high, but are
vastly inferior to those already com-
manded for the same lots. Two specula.
tively inclined members of the Canadian
Press Association party, picked out a 66
foot lot on what is now the main busi-
ness street as a purchase. The real
estate dealer told them it was valued at
>81,500 but was not for sale at that or
any other price,. for the time being.
They insisted on having a stake in the
ROW metropolis of the North, and secur-
ed a lot with similar Irontaee, but on a
side street for $700. Another member
of the Fourth Estate invested in t5o
acres of farm land paying 5o cents per
acre. He does not intend immediate
location.
A year and a half ago this was the
forest primeval. At that time the T.
and N 0. rails were laid to within a
couple of utiles of the present town. A
Hardware merchant named McManus,
with the adventurous spirit of the pioneer
decided to establish a store here. . He
bought a carload of hardware iu Toronto,
brought it to end of the rails and pro-
ceeded to haul it by loan) 431011¢ the trail
