A letter to THE PosT from Hyder, Manitoba, written by James Dobson, a former resident of this locality, in renewing his subscription, says :- "Your paper is just like a letter tome every week. The weather is fine at pie8ent but water in' wells is very low and hard to get enough for stock: Mr. Dobson is a brother to Harvey Dobson, a well known Ethelite. Ethel L. 0. L., No. 631, had 11 special meeting on the evening of the 14th for the purpose of giving the Royal and Purple degree. The rneetiug was a decided success four candidates tak- ing the degree. We' were favored with visiting brethren from the fol- lowing lodges :-Glenullen, Brussels, Walton and Atwood, which added to making the evening a pleasant one for all. MRs, RoBT. RANSOM PASSES AWAY. -After a shorti'llness, from bronchial pneumonia, Mrs. Robert. Ransom was called away'Thnrsday of last week at 9.30 p. nt., iu her 80th year. 'Deceas- ed, whose maiden name was Ann Barker, was born inNorfolk, England, on April 18th, 1824 and was united in marriage to her now bereft husband on January 2nd, 1854, their, malmied life covering the lengthened period of 58 years. They settled in Alderney, one of the British Channel Islands, 14118721Ir. and Meg. Ransom and fatuity came to Canada and took up their house on the 8th eon. of Grey township where they continued to re- side until they moved to Ethel in 1901. Eight children were born to them viz. Robt. 11., died in infancy ; John, who passed away in 190I Geo., last heard of in British Columbia_; Mrs. T. Hall and Mrs. J. H. Davidson, of Montreal ; Miss Sarah, of Detroit ; and Misses Hannah and Ewma at horse. Deceased was a remarkably healthy and hearty woman who re- taiued eyesight and hearing in marked contrast to many elderly people. She was very kindly mannered and tv(as ever ready to lend a helppinghand to any one in need. MIs. Ransom held 1.0 the Church of England. She was a sister to the late John and Matthew Balker, formerly of the 13th ' con. The funeral of Mrs. Ransom took place Monday afternoon, 'the service being conducted by Rev. D. B. McRae, Presbyterian minister, aud interment was made in the Brussels cemetery. Pall bearers were. Robt. Barr, J. K. Brown, E. B. Sanders, 'J. Hemsworth, G. W. Pollard and W," McLeod. The bereaved` husband and daughters will have extended to rbrem the sympathy of the community.
