Owmo to the smoke stack going
wrong at the Electric Light power
house last Tuesday the lights were not
in service that night. Repairs were
made Wednesday, a cold job on account
of the blizzardly storm.
SCALDED .-Tnesdav evening, Harry,
the 3 year old son of Harry Dredge, was
quite severely scalded by coming in con-
tact with his sister who was carrying a
pan of hot water. The little lad got
considerable of the contents in his face
bet we hope he will suffer no ill effects
from the accident.

THOS. BABE PASSES AWAY.—On Octo•
ber 3rd Thomas Babb paid Nature's
debt at his home, Sidney, Manitoba, in
his Brat year, He and his family were
well known residents of Mitchell who
event West 25 or .more years ago. Mrs.
Babb and a large adult family survive.
The funeral of Mr. Babb took place to
Carberry cemetery "and was under the
direction of- the A. F. & A. M. De-
ceased was a fine spirited man and was
widely respected.
IRA PARKER'S FUNERAL.—'There was a
large attendance at the funeral of our
highly esteemed former townsman, Ira
Parker, Thursday afternoon of last week.
The service was conducted at the par-
ental home of Mrs, Parker, by Rev, E,
G Powell, assisted by Rev. Dr. Rut-
ledge, deceased's pastor at Wingham.
Funeral was under the direction of the
Odd Fellows, some 6o of the three link-
ed brethren being in the procession to
the ,cemetery, marshalled by W. A.
Grewar, The pallbearers were R. A.
Pryne, E. Nicholson, W. Leatberdale,
Dr, Hamilton, J. A. Hunter and S. C.
Wilson. At the graveside the service
of the Order was conducted by Noble
Grand C. t -t. Dodds and Chaplain J. A.
Hunter. A number of young people
from Wingham showed their apprecia
tion of Mr. Parker by attending the last
rites

exhibitor to 'the Fall Fairs he goes to
win and it keeps the best of them hust-
ling to produce roots, vegetables and
flowers to take the lion's share of red tick-

favorably with bis best record in the
past and proves that Mac. is still King

BRUSSELS HAD THE BEST OF Ir.—Fri-
day of last week was the date set for the
est of home and home Foot Ball match•
s in tbe finals for the Provincial chem
ionship. The day was delightful for
ny outdoor sport and attracted a large
umber of spectators. Havelock and
Brussels were the contending teams, the

FORMER BRUSSELS BOY To THE. FRONT.
—George W. Armstrong, , a native of
the province of Ontario, born at .Brus-
sels, September 8th, 5863, who afterward
passed 23 years at Buffalo, Fargo and
other parts of North Dakota, has suc-
ceeded Carl W. Tuerkeas Commissioner
of Streets and President of the Board of
Police commissioners of Spokane. He
is also a member of the Board of Public
Works. The appointment was made by
Mayor N. S. Pratt, He was for years
interested in irrigation projects and is
manager and director of the Columbia
River Orchards company. which is put-
ting 15,00o acres under the ditch South
of Spokane. Mr. Armstrong came to
the United States with his parents in
188o, settling in North Dakota. His
early manhood was spent in Buffalo and
later he moved to Fargo. He has been
an extensive farmer, merchant, presi-
dent of a bank and later a director iu
