She spent about 18 years in China and In her address divided that period into three divisions of 6 years each and showed what advance had been made. There had been long years of preparation, waiting and discouragement before re- sults came. Very gratiLyiug results have come. The address was full of in• terest and practical thoughts for those interested in the work of Missions. Miss MeKinlay, of Pe nssels added inter est to the meeting by singiug a solo ep- titled 'The Homeland" and the children of the 13r osis Mission Band sang very sweetly a chorus entitled "Ali the world for Jesne." M. So - Medea of the Methodist Church in the Wingham district was held in Gerrie on Wednesday, May 13th. The ministerial session of the annual district meeting being in session in the Methodist church, the W. M. S. assembled in the Presbyterian church for the morning and afternoon services. Mrs F. G. Sperling, of Wingham, the district or- ganizer presided with efficiency, and Mrs. J. A. Morton, of the same town, performed the duties of Secretary. The morning session, after the informal re- ceptiou of delegates, was opened by de- votioual exercises, and Mrs. Gordon Wright, of London, addressed the Con' ventlon on auxiliary work. The conse- cration service was in charge of Mrs. Me'Pavish, who was assisted by Mrs. Wrigbt, leading in prayer, and Mrs. Morton, eIrs. Wellwood Mrs Griffith, Mrs. (Rev) Patterson and abets. The visitors and delegates then repaired to the Methodist church, where, with the ministers of the district joining, a coin minion service was held. in charge of Rev. J. 5, Ford, the Chairman of the district. At the afternoon session Mrs, F. G. Sperling conducted the de• votioual services, Mrs, Joynt, of Luck - now, giving a vety appropriate Bible lesson. After the reading of the minutes, the balloting for organizer was proceeded with, and Mrs. ,parlieg was unanimously recommended for re.elee- lion at the breach meeting to be held in St. Marys in Nue. Lieut.- Col. John Brown Rankin, K. C„ Provincial Drainage Referee, passed away Thursday morning in the Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, following an opera. tion for gallstones. Col. Rankin was a native of Kent county for many years awl One of the foremost barristers in On- tario. Ile was appoluted Provincial Drainage Referee when that office was instituted about 1862. Be was prom inept in inilitary matters, becoming Lieut. -Col. of the erth Kent Battalion on its reorganization in oar, an office lie held until bis retirement last Winter, since when he had been honorary Colonel.
