COUNTY TEMPERANCE CON• - VENTION. Thursday of last week the second annual Temperance Convention for Huron Co. 0o vetted in the Presby- terian church, Blyth, with President F. Buchanan, Of Wiugham, in the chair. Three sessions full of vigor were held. Delegates we present from nearly all of the Municipalities in the County and were full of enthusiasm at the prospect of the abolition of the bar and the treating system. After reports from the officers as 10 the work clone during the year was dealt with, The Biopsing session was devoted to reports from the several municipalities, most of which were very' encouraging aucl the prospects bright for an early adoption of the Local Option. lav hi V which is nn; 90 pop- ular 1 P alar tlnoughont the world Rev. S.L. Toll, of. Henault, gave an excellent ad- dress on Local Option, quoting most- ly from his own town, showing clear- ly that Local Option was a decided sue - cess in Heusall. It was almost impos-, siblo to reut a house ; hotel accommo-, dation was better than under license business was good and in some cases better than meter license, and there was not one fiftieth of the chinking clone now as under former conditions, and for all these statements he could rive roof as to 11 6 p their accuracy. G. M. Elliott, of Goderioh, spoke of the campaign in that town and also led a Conference on Local Option or - p ganization which was practical and helpful. L'wo strong addresses were delivered in the evening, the first by Rev. D. T. L. licKerroll, of Luckuov, who was fresh from a splendid campaign in his home town, and as a former resident of Owen Sound spoke with authority concerning conditions there. He strongly urged the churches to do more for Temperance and Local Option than they had done, as he was convinced that it is th church's duty to wage war continually, until the country is free from the legalized liq- uor traffic. Joseph, Gibson, of Ingersoll, Pres- ident of the Ontario Branch of the Dominion Alliance., closed the Couven- tion with an inspiring address. He urged the delegates hot to lose sight of the fact that the greatest work in which the church conic! concentrate its forces was the Temperance work and that they should ever keep before there the idea of trying in every way to make the world bettor. Resolution was adopted urging the Government to repeal the. three fifths clause, and also one criticizing the Local Government for the manner in which the License Inspector and Com- missioners 'had been appointed in Centre Huron. A letter of thanks WAS ordered to be sent to W. Proudfout, 11'. P. P„ for Centre Huron, for the strong position he took on the floor of the Legislature in regard to the three fifths clause and the abolition of the bar.
