23, is situated West of Robt. Searlett's
and contains 100 acres. It was sold
for $4.500. Mr. Morrison still has the
homestead farm of 150 acres, which is
one of the very best in the township.
Mr. Trewartha s purchase is very con-
veniently situated to his home farm,
being just across the road and gives
him a very fin farm. of 200 acres.

farrll of Robt. Calder, Gravel Road,
was destroyediby fire on Tuesday even-
ing of last week. The fire was first
noticed. by Stephen Godkin, who was
driving home. When he arrived on
the scene no person was at home, Mr.
Gelder being at a neignbor's and the
men in the field. He immediately
gave the alarm, and by hard work
they managed to .get out: some mach-
inery which was in the barn, and also
save the implement house. The barn
contained all Mr. Calder's hay and
several loads of barley. The cause of
the fire is unknown as no person was
around at the time.

opened an office for the practice of his
profession on Main street, over Kib-
ler's shoe store.
Arthur Hewitt, 2nd of Elma, cap='

roadside on Monday morning of last
week. The bird was disabled with a
broken leg, evidently an old break,
and after alighting on the ground WM
not able to start its flight quickly
again.

ell was held on Tuesday night of last
week to consider the claim of 0. F.
Vandrick for damages. On the 12t1i
of May Mr. Vandrick's daughter,
Ellen, sprained her ankle by stepping
into a broken grate in front of the
Standard office. She had. not yet en-
tirely recovered from the effects. A
committee the Mayor and Mr. Haw-
kins, had 'discussed the matter with
Mr. Vandrick and reportd that he
melted $125 damages, but agreed to
take a'$100 in full- of all his claims.
The latter was paid. ,
The election expenses of P. W. Hay,
in North Perth as shown by the official
return of his financial agent, :las. Mc-
Intyre, in the recent local election,

In the death of AgnesHamilton, relict
of the late George Moffatt, of Morris
township,013 Wednesday the lath inst.,
the community loses one of its oldeet
and. most highly esteemed residents.
The deceased lady who had reached
the advanced age of 82 years and 2
months, was a native of 1300341111114,having been born near Edinburgh. 57
years ago she came with her husband
to this part, settling at a place which
afterwards took the name of Morris -
bank. The country was then a densewllderneos,
wilderness, and.Huron county had
not yet been surveyed. By industry
and thrift they succeeded in making
a home for themselves, and enjoyed
the satisfaction of seeing what WAS
mice forest converted into produetive
farms. The late Mrs. Moffatt was a
W0111/01 highly thmight of in the com-
triunity and esteemed for her many
excellent qualities. Surviving child-
ren are four sons :-David a member
of Turnberry Council ; Christopher
and Jas. also of Turnberry ; Peter, of
Morris, (withwhom Mrs, Moffatt re-
s(ded on the homestead) ; and two
daughters Mrs. Geo. Giver, of Wing -
'ham; and Mrs. Robt. -Mitchell, of
Tram berry. The funeral took place on
Saturday afternoon, and was very
largely attended, the remains being
laid to rest in the Bluevale cemetery.
The service was conducted by Rev.
Mr. Perrin, and the pallbearers were
the four sons and two sons-in-law.
Mr. Moffatt died 21 years ago.

in smashed the finger badly.
