ETHEL DEBATING SOCIETY.—II Was Farmers' night at the Township Hall Saturday night, The large building was crowded to the doors and many had to stay outside. The subject "Thorn' bred vs. Grade cattle" was well handled by both sides and stock raisers got some valuable pointers from the discussion, The thoro'"breds carried off the red ribbon. The topic discussed at the overflow meeting out- side, Was "Resolved that the Township, Hall should be enlarged."—Carried by a large majority. The spelling match which followed the debate, under the leadership of Misses Slemmon and Chambers, proved as entertaining as it was instructive but Principal . As Mrs. Speir was over 88 years of age a - shock of this kind is not nearly so easily overcome as in a younger per- son. We hope she will soon be better. Dr. Robertson, of Knox College, Toronto, gave an ad- mirable discourse at 11 a. m,aud dup- licated -it at 7 p. m. In the:afternoon Rev. Neil Shaw, 13. A., of Egmond- ville, occupied the pulpit giving a profitable sermon. Good music was supplied by the church choir and the Sabbath services will live long in the memory of the members of the church. The Worthy pastor, Rev. Mr. Carswell, assisted in the services, Monday evening the church was crowded to discomfort at the tea meeting. As fine a supper as any person would de- sire to sit down to was served in the commodious cement basement which made a fine place for the occasion, The program was rendered in the auditorium and was replete' with good things, Rey.
