went out from here to Roe's church on
Tuesday evening When the Ethel
League took charge of the program,
after which Roe's League, in right
royal style, entertained the Ethel
friends. The church was really took
full for much mixing up by the young
folks but they bad a good time just
the same.
The service in the Methodist church
on Sabbath evening last was of a Mis-
sionary character, The hymns, an-
thems and sermon from the text "Go
ye into all the world and ,preach the
Gospel to every creature,'- were in
tended to stir up Missionary enthus-
iasm for next Sunday which is Mis-
sionary Day at Roe's and Union as
well as at Ethel,`'
MATRIMONIAL, — A very pleasant
event touk place at the Parsonage on
Tuesday afternoon when Miss Hannah
1. Mills, one of Ethel's fairest young
ladies, was united in marriage to Geo,
W. Elliott, a prosperous young farmer
of Molesworth. Mr. and Mrs Elliott
are leaving in a few days for Pilot
Mound, Man , where they purpose

ETHEL DEBATING SOCIETY.—II Was
Farmers' night at the Township Hall
Saturday night, The large building
was crowded to the doors and many
had to stay outside. The subject
"Thorn' bred vs. Grade cattle" was
well handled by both sides and stock
raisers got some valuable pointers from
the discussion, The thoro'"breds
carried off the red ribbon. The topic
discussed at the overflow meeting out-
side, Was "Resolved that the Township,
Hall should be enlarged."—Carried by
a large majority. The spelling match
which followed the debate, under the
leadership of Misses Slemmon and
Chambers, proved as entertaining as it
was instructive but Principal . Mc-
Donald placed too many etuntblipg
blocks iu the way of Miss Chambers'
ner befitting the joyous occasion.
Amid showers ot rice the newly wed-
ded couple departed on the afternoon
train for Los Angeles followed by the
best wishes of their many friends for
their future happiness. The bride Is a
neice of Mrs. R. A. Fairbairn who
visited here last Fall from California.

farm. He bas found six of them and

Last week he found two of them in
McKillop township.

is looking for another farm. we under-

.A political meeting in the interests
of M. Y. McLean, the Liberal.candi-
date iu the bye election, will be held in
Leadbury school house Saturday even-
ing of this week at 8 o'clock, Election
will come off next Wednesday. Mr.
McLean should be elected and McKil-
lop should give him a good lift.
A large number from McKillop are
in Godericb as witnesses on the differ-
ent cases being tried at the Quarterly
Sessious.which were to have come off
in December but for the smallpox
epidemic blit no doubt some ` may be
wiser but considerably poorer when
they come home as law dues not often
favor the pocket even in bard tithes.

served. The bride's travelling suit
was of navy bine broadcloth and hat to
match Me. and Mrs. Fulton, after
visiting friends in the vicinity, pur-
pose leaving in a few weeks tor Cali-
tornia where Mr. Fulton intends to,
take a position as aa accountant.
Both bride and groom , have many
warm friends who will miss them very
much but join in wishing theta every
happiness and prosperity in their mar-
ried life.

HARD To BEAT,—Richard Procter,
the well known hustling Tax' Collector
of this township, bas returned his roll
of [907 with every cent of the large
sum of $,6,392:740. collected, This is
the largest amount ever ,collected in
Morris for one year and Mr, Proctor's
record will be hard to surpass,
BAD ACCIDENT.—We are very
sorry to report that Mrs. Gilbert Speir,
an old and worthy resident of the 4th
line, had the misfortune to fall at the
residence of her son, John Speir, and
break her right arm at the
wrist and also her thigh. As
Mrs. Speir was over 88 years of age a -
shock of this kind is not nearly so
easily overcome as in a younger per-
son. We hope she will soon be better.
HYMENEAL.—A quiet and pretty wed-
ding took place at the borne of Albert
Henderson, of Corbettop, Ont., on
Wednesday of last week, when his
cousin, Miss Sadie B. Keeler, became
the bride of James M. Scott, a pros
perous and respected. young merchant
of Yellow Grass, Sask. Rev. W. J.
Tribble, of Corbetton, was the officiat-
ing clergyman, The young couple
took the evening train for Brussels
where they are at present visiting
Henry and Mrs. Jackson; aunt and
uncle to the groom. After a visit with
relatives iu Toronto Mr, and Mrs.
Tribble will leave for their home at
Yellow Grass carrying with them the
best wishes of a wide circle of relatives
and friends for their future happiness
and prosperity.

ED.—Last Sabbath and Monday were
red letter 'days in the history of Cavan
church of this place. the congregation
taking possession of their fine new.
brick church. The weather on Sab-
bath morning was not the most pro-
pitious' yet a large congregation was
present. Rev. Dr. Robertson, of
Knox College, Toronto, gave an ad-
mirable discourse at 11 a. m,aud dup-
licated -it at 7 p. m. In the:afternoon
Rev. Neil Shaw, 13. A., of Egmond-
ville, occupied the pulpit giving a
profitable sermon. Good music was
supplied by the church choir and the
Sabbath services will live long in the
memory of the members of the church.
The Worthy pastor, Rev. Mr. Carswell,
assisted in the services, Monday
evening the church was crowded to
discomfort at the tea meeting. As
fine a supper as any person would de-
sire to sit down to was served in the
commodious cement basement which
made a fine place for the occasion,
The program was rendered in the
auditorium and was replete' with
good things, Rey. Mr. Carswell pre-
sided and 'made a most competent
chairman, Addresses, well charged
with the practical, were given by
Revds, Messrs. Leckie, of Landes-
bot'o' ; Carrie, of Walton ; Larkin..
of Seaforth ; Sbaw. of Egmoudville,
anti Small, of Biyth, the latter pleas-
ing the audience by the addition of a
good reoitatiou, Miss Dane, of Gor-
rie, rendered appreciated help in
elocutionary ulinibers. The musical
bill of fare was in the hands of Sea -
forth Presbyterian choir and an Eg-
mondville quartette and was greatly
enjoyed. Altogether tate evening was
