NEWSY . NOTEs.—Duncan Taylor is
still confined to his bed. He was
somewhat better last week but is not
progressing as well this week.—In•
vltetions are out for the marriage of
Hugh R. Spence and Miss Minetta M„
the popular daughter of Harry and
Mrs. Grainger, of the Boundary. The
date is Dec. 24th, at 5 p. m.—In Last
Saturday's Daily Globe, Toronto, the

this locality, is seen in the group.
He's a great player.—Mr. Forest, of
this locality has been engaged to teach
the Whitfield school, Lith con, of
Grey, for next year. We wish him
success.

B. 13, Gurtx, M. P„ DIES.—News of
the death of 13. 13. Gunn, M. P., was
received here on Mbnday with feelings
of the deepest sorrow. On every hand
was the talk, citizens feeling that in
the death of the member they have
sustained a personal loss. In every
respect he was a friend. Kind, good-
natured and charitable, it was a pleas-
ure to know and to meet him on any
occassion. Mr. Gunn was one of the
town's foremost men, both socially and
politically, He gave generously of his
time to his town and county, serving
in many positions in the town and
county councils, including that of
Mayor of Seafortb. In affairs of the
Methodist church he took an active
part, being a member of the trustee
board. The late B. B. Gunn was born
near Wallacetown, Hlgin• County,,.
where he spent the early part of his
life. He moved to Huron Co. many
years ago and engaged as a general
merchant, which business he conduct-
ed until shortly after his election to
Parliament at the last general election
when he disposed of it, Deceased is
survived by a widow and two sons,
Gordon, a medical student at Toronto,
and john -a lad of 52 years. His
mother also survives, living at the
homestead in Elgin county, Dr.
Gunn, of Montreal, is a brother. Mr.
Gunn was elected to Parliament at the
last general election over his opponent,
E, Fraser, by a majority of rt3.

The death occurred on Saturday, of
Emily Marlton, beloved wife of Os-
wald Carey, after an illness of some
months, Besides her husbandshe
leaves a family of ten children, seven
boys and three girls.
J. L. Aitken has been appointed to
the position of librarian and caretaker
of the Goderich public library in place
of the late Andrew Duff. He will be
assisted in the work by his daughter.
Until Mr. Aitkin assumes charge the
duties are being temporarily discharg-
ed by the secretary, D. T. Naftel.
There was a lengthy session of the
town council and the appointment of
a successor to M. O. :Johnston as town
clerk was made as the town clock was
striking is. There were four appli-
cants for the position :—W. A. McKim,
James Mitchell. W. A. H. Cuff and
D. Mcldurdie, the first -named receiv-
ing the appointment. Mr. McKim
has been in the dry goods business
in Goderich for a number of years,
but will retire from -business- to •.takes
the position of clerk.
