the death at Woodstock of Mrs. Harry
Days from typhoid fever, Mrs. Days
lost her mother and husband last year,
and had been called to the deathbed
of au aunt, who was buried at Goder-
ich a few weeks ago. Her estate will
be divided among ber sisters and bro-
thers, Mrs. Laurie, of Michigan ; Mrs.
J. D. Murray, Detroit; 0. G. Martin,
Buffalo, and Wellington Martiu, Ber-
lin, Ont.

Mrs. Wm, Ballantyne, Goderich
street, met with- a bad accident .last
Friday. While standing on a step led
der she fell aud was rather badly injur-
ed. Both her wrists were broken and
her head was slightly injured so as to
render her insensible for a time.
CoLutwA'rs SPolers.-The Col-
legiate Institute sports took place last
Friday afternoou and quite a number
of people from the town and surround-
ing district were present to see the dif-
ferent events. The junior champion-
ship was won by Master Dalton Reid,
who also holds the largest number of
first prizes. The senior championship
is still undecided, three boys having
scored an equal number of points. It
is a somewhat significant fact that
those three are among the best
students in the school. In the even-
ing a concert was given by the pupils
in the assembly hall and the attendan-
ce was all the hall could accommodate.
The program consisted of songs,
speeches, recitations, dancing, etc„ all
of which was heartily enjoyed. The
prizes and medals were presented by
Principal Rogers, assisted by Mesdames
Berry and Best.

last two months, The change proved

Rev. Ben. Spence, of Toronto, gave
an interesting address on Local Option
and the benefits secured therefrom in
the Town Hall last Wednesday even-
ing.

Last Sunday afternoon the annual
sermon to the Ethel Court Canadian
Order of Foresters *as preached in
the Methodist church beim by Rev,
John Henderson, pastor. The dis-
course %vasa practical one, the subject
being •'Doing Good." 'there was a
large attendance the brethren being
marshalled by Robert McDonald,
Ethel Court is a strong one and well

At the evening service in the Meth-
odist church last Sunday Robt, Mc
Kay gave a well directed sermon from
the text "Seek ye first the kingdom of
Goct, &e." B. Jackson assisted iu the
service. The League meeting follow-

was sold, by private sale to John
Young, of the same locality. Price,
$700. A considerable portion of the
farm is still in the state of nature. A

A young lad named Bert Young, of
Sunshine locality, fell from an apple
tree alighting on his mother's back.
Mrs. Young was stooped over picking
e up apples. The youth bad a couple of
a ribs damaged and Mrs. Young felt the
result of the shack for some time.
Quite an improvement is being made

morning that Joseph Clegg, the well

Joshua Bateman, of Toronto, was
revisiting old scenes in Grey during
the past week. He is fit son of William
Bateman aud has been employed in
the baggage department of the Grand
Trunk railway for years.
Miss Susie Pearson was elected 3rd
Vice President ot the Wingham Dis-
trier Epworth League at the Conven-
tion held at Brussels last week. She
is an energetic and faithful worker in
the Young People's Society,
Miss Emelyne, daughter, of Hector
McQuarrie, is home from a most en-
joyable visit with her sister in Man-
Chester, England. Miss McQuarrie
saw considerable of the Old Land and
she may be induced to go back.
Harry Montano. who has been in
Cobalt country for the past 6 or 8
months carpentering, arrived here last
week. He will spend the Winter iu
Ontario, making his home at his
brother-in-law's, Thos. Williamson,

The Sabbath School which has been
meeting in the school house of S. S.
No. 3, with P, A. McArtliur es the
painstaking Superintendent, will close
next Sabbath afternoon until the open-
ing of next Spring. This has beeu a
successful and enjoyable year in the
work for which all are grateful.
Ws are sorry to lose John McAllister
and family from Grey township as they
were first-class residents. They re-
moved to Toronto, where they put"
pose making their home. Many old
friends about here wish them malty
happy years and will be glad to see
them back on frequent visits.
Last Monday Mrs. R. A. Fairbairn,
who had been enjoying a holiday visit
for several months with relatives and
many old friends here, left tor her
house in California, She is a daughter
of Mrs, Robert McKay, 8th con„ and a
sister to Mrs, Hugh McKinnon, Rebt,
and Peter McKay, of the same line.
Mrs. Fairbairn has promised not to be
as long away as of old in paying
another visit to Ontario,

Mrs. Harry Days, who died at Wood-
stock on Saturday, were brought to
town, the funeral taking lilac& from the
Grand Trunk station on the arrival of
the 51.35 train and going to the Coo
borne cemetery, where the interment
was made, Mrs, Days was the second
daughter of the late Isaac Martin, form-

Her husband was a well-to-do druggist

about fourteen months ago, They had

scorning quite unexpectedly. She had
been indisposed on Saturday and Mrs,
Josephine Jardine had been called in
to attend her, Wilco she retired for
the night it was thought she would be
all right in the morning, but when Mrs,
Jardine went to her room about 7,30
o'clock Sunday morning ah0 found her
dead. Mrs, Humber's husband, form-
erly police magistrate of Goderich,
died in Murch last, his death being
also sudden, ea the 1'eault of all acel-
dent, Mau, Humber WAS 63 years of
age, and was one of 0 family 'of four 1

at Milbaven. She was formerly a Mies
Amy and her surviving sisters are Mrs.
