My friend Bolger ie MU IR annoyed that I did not. give my name, tint ho ooaid indulge in persouelitiee about me as he did with you, instead of eneweriog my aeensatione. The difforeaoe between ns is he writes to see lite name in print and I don't, It is not necessary that the name of the author ie given whet discussing public questions or public wee when you do not tuterfere with a men's private character. This I did not co as I leave that to the Censer relive party to do, as it seems that is their role for the west election. I believe in dismissingpolities and understanding them so that the voters may vote in tslligently and I defy Mr. Bolger to point out ono assertion I made that is not true, As a rule there is little of it serious character in what he writes. even if lie does sayhe wont take a bask seat front any onwith the pen. Your readers know beis a little vain but we all have some fault I suppose. He says that be. fore and during en election your readers ere treated with what be calla hot stuff but what he means 1 do not know. I would say it mast have been true when it appeared es hot to friend James and I assure your readers it was and eau be provenou the pablio platform when the. time comae notwithstanding Jae, Bolger to the contrary. Barely during an else tion and, before one is the time to criticise our oandidatee and members and their eayinge, doings and eotione. Tbie is a right every elector bas bat which Mr. Bolger would deprive them of if he bad his way but that is not Liberalism. You very truthfalty told friend James where the "mud slinging" started. Who was the "mudslinger ?" At the Coueervative meeting in Brussels in June the Dr. told a yarn about a young member of Parliament, giving no name but insinuating that it was Mr. Hislop, mad told in snob a way as to convey to hie hearers the impression that Htelop was drunk at the King Edward Hotel at Toronto, at least some of hie hearers so thought from theit was told and g way have sines been telling it for the troth. The Dr. takes good Dare when he is canvassing Liberal° to eliog no rand as' he then uses so ar•eoated ills knows everything that is good about the one oaneaseed and all hie relations bat when behind closed doors, open only to hie party, as at Dungannon and Brussels, he slings his mud. He did this during the last campaign and instilled it into some of bis followers to do the same about Dr. McDonald and he is now fol lowing the same eauree with Hielop. Yon clan bet be wont meet him on the public platform and themes the publio questions. He wonld not dare repeat his yarns there as be would be brought to task. While he left the impression the young member was drunk Boob is false in the extreme as Hislop sever was drunk at any time and never etayed at the King Edward Hotel. Mr. Hielop'e cations as man and a member as to being temperate or as to the furtherance of'temperance in the past will show up very favorably as compared with the dootor's past motions. Liberals every where, and espeoinlly those fooled lest time to vote against their party or to refrain from voting or from over confidence, ehould pay no attention to James Bolger'e herring, as it is very stale but should get to work with a will so that the political soalp of the one who says be ie getting too old to be our mem• bar and that we should get a younger man and yet ie running, even if he hoe not aeoepted the nomination, ntay be banging at the belt of Hislop after the next election, I am yams, A LIBERAL, 011011011.
