Oscar Sparrow is a busy man these
days improving his home. He has put

Ouly one farmer, A. McKee, in- this
locality is sowing sugar beets in quan-
tity this year. The long wait to get
some of them shipped disgusted a good
many.

Misses Lizzie McKay and Olive Mc-
Gillivray are attending the Teachers'
Convention at Guelph this week. The
former will also visit Toronto. No
school until Monday.
Monday evening Rev. E. G. Powell
gave an interesting illustrated lecture
in the Methodist church here when
over 8o stereopticon views were shown
an a trip to the.Pacific Coast.

Dr. Forbes Godfrey was chosen as
the Conservative candidate to contest
the bye election in West York, Dr.
Godfrey is a brother of Mrs. Hele,
formerly of this place.
Harry Chamney's barn was raised on
Friday, loth inst., and we are sorry to
learn that P, Gilbbous met with a
severe fall. He fell Iron a girth and
struck the outer corner of the sill with
his left side, breaking a couple of ribs.
From there he fell about ten more feet
to the gtouod, striking oa his head and
shoulder. At last reports he was do-
ing favorably.
The Quarterly board of the Milverton
Circuit,'at its meeting last week un-
animously passed the following resolu-
tion relating to a former pastor of Bel -
grave ;—"That we appreciate the good
providence of God, who has given us
the Rev. F. J. Oaten, M. A., as our
pastor. We wish to record that his
services are highly valued by us. We
look hopefully forward to a con-
tinuance of this relation during the
future."
DIED.—The death of Mos. Jame
Cloakey and infant child ou Saturday,
I th inst., came as a shock to the people
.of this vicinty. Decased was formerly
Miss Bennett and was universally
esteemed, as was evidenced by the
large number of sympathizing friends
who followed the remains to their
last resting place in Blyth cemetery ;
The sisters of the deceased are, Mrs,
Wm. Armour, of'Wingham, and Mrs.
E. Livingstone, of Blyth ;the brothers
are Aaron, of Lucknow ; John, of
Blyth, and William, of Wawanosh.
Deceased was a member of Belgrave
Presbyterian Church. Her sorrowing
husband has sincere sympathy.

purchased Maitland Terrace, the resi-
dence of the late Thos, Gibson, In
religion Mr, Lovell was a life long
Presbyterian and in politics a Liberal.
A wife and grown up family are left to
mourn his loss. The funeral took
place to the Wroxeter cemetery on
Saturday afternoon, service being con-
ducted by Rev, L. Perrin, The pall-
bearers were Daniel and Jno. Mc-
Naughton, James and Peter McEsvan
James Wylie and Jno. R. Miller,
there was a large attendance at the
burial, Rev. Mr. Radford. of Bel -
more, took part in the service.

DIED.—Last Saturday Harold, the
second son of Louis and Aonie Hol-
linger, roth con., died, aged 8 years,
5 months and 18 days. The lad had
a bielrting ear, the trouble affecting
the brain resulting iu his demise, He
was a bright boy and will be greatly
missed. Funeral took place on Mon-
day afternoon, Rev. D. 13. McRae, of
Cranbrook, taking the service. The
pall bearers were Alex. Dark, Willie
and Harvey Hoover, Joe Armstrong,
Willie Grant and Jno. Alcock. Burial
was made in Brussels cemetery Mr,
and Mrs. Hollinger have the sympathy
of the community in their bereave-
ment.

Mrs. Donald Currie, 4th line, is back
from a visit of 4 weeks with relatives
in Hamilton, Her little grand daugh-

Wrozeter, preaching a good sermon.
During the past year Rev. C. V. Lake
who was superannuated and resided at
Davenport passed away to his reward,

and after devotional exercises Rev.
G. W. W. Rivers, 13. D., of Belgrave,
was chosen Statistical Secretary, Rev,
E. G. Powell, of Brussels, as assistant.

elation :ofthanks was given the Meth-
odist people of Lucknow for their gen-
erous'hospitality on motion of W. H.
Kerr and Rev, E. F, Armstrong. An
invitation was given from Rev. Mr.
