Epicures of the more adventurous

dugong, a delicacy which will soon ap-
pear on the London and Paris rnar-
kets from Northern Queensland, says
the Country Gentleman.
The dugong, which 1s an aquatic ant -
null, and no fish, is coiumon in some
of the shallow waters off the Queens-
land coast, and as It is a clean reecho,
consuming the seagrass which grows
on the shoals, there seems certainly
no reason why its flesh should not be
appetizing enough.
The dugong's upright attitude in the
water and habit of clasping its young
to its breast gave it a queerly human
appearance in the eyes of early merin.

'not yet ceased to 'appear stuffed in
travelling shows as the authentic body

romantic role to the level of mere timed
meat is doubtless characteristic of our
prosaic and Industrial age.

person should consane tour and a half

Dr. Wiley never merle an investiga-

"Whet d'o you consider the best food

"I think a elan ought, to choose his
own ration," he replied. "Lois of peo-
ple are vegetarians. 1 think we eat too
much meat for health For the susten-

TREES THAT WHISTLE.
Tile musical tree that grows in the
West India Islands has a leaf of peaum,
liar shape, and pods with split or open
edges. The wind passing through' these
creates the sound which gives 110 tree
its none. In Barbedoes there is a valley
filled with these plants, and when the
trade winds blow across the island a
constant moaning, deep -toned whistle is
head, which, in the still hours of the
night, has a weird and unpleasant
effect. A species of acacia, grooving
abundantly in the Soudan, is also called
by file same name. Its shoots are fre-
quently, by the agency of the larvae of
the forest insects, distorted in shape, and
swollen into a globular bladder, from
one to two inches In diameter. After the
insect has emerged from a little circular
hole in the side of the swelling, the open-
ing, played upon by the wind, becomes
Et musical instrument, equal in sound to
a sweet -toned flute.
We All !love Missions in the World -
There is a work to do for every man
on earth, there is a function to perform
for everything on earth, animate and
inanimate. Everything has a mission,
and the mission of Dr. Thomas' Eclec-
lric 011 is to heal burns and wounds
51 every description and cure coughs,
colds, croup and all affections of the
respiratory organs.

never crowd men out in the tramp pro-

CUTTING CAVES WITH WATER.
The effect' of- the hydraulic motor,
which is now used for the purpose of
removing masses of earth, well-nigh
passes belief. A stream of water issuing
from a pipe six inches in diameter, with
a fall behind it of 39d feet, will carry
mossy a solid rock weighing a ton- or
more to a distance of fifty or a hundred
-feet,. , The velocity of the stream is ter-
rific, and the column of water projected
is so solid that if a crowbar or other
heavy object be thrust against it the im-
pinging object will be hurled a consider-
able distance. By this stream of water a
man would be instantly killed if he Came
into contact with it, even al a distance of
'1 couple of hundred feet. Al 200 feel
broad the nozzle a six-inch stream, with
375 feet fall, projected momentarily
against the trunk of a tree, will in a.
second.denude it of the heaviest bark as
cleanly as if it had been cut with an axe.
Whenever such a stream is turned
against a bank it cutis and burrows it 111
every direction, hollowing out great
caves, and causing tons of earth to melt
and fall and be washed away in the
sluices.
' "That man is so honest he wouldn't

thought much of the pin test," answered
?)r. 'Cayenne. "Try him with an um-
