Owing to illness' J. E. Maunders
was unable to take the service at Vic-
toria Hall as announced, W. H. Kerr,
of Brussels, took charge giving a
Christmas sermon on the text "We
have seen His star in the East and
have come to worship Him." Next
Sabbath A. M McKay, of Brussels,
is expected to supply.
The Christmas Entertainment held
in connection with the Sunday School,
was a decided success. The program
consisted of songs and .choruses by
the children ; song by Geo. Eckmier
and D. Taylor, also Miss Watson, of
Kincardine ; speeches by Jno, Cutt
and Jas. Strachan. Samuel Snell
made a very agreeable chairman.
Jas. Simpson acted in the rapacity
of Santa Claus, The very enjoyable
entertainment came to a close by
singing the National Anthem'.

the first class entertainmentshere last
week left on Thursday for Arthur,
They will return some tint, in January
under the auspices of the Odd Follows
and will give the play entitled "Hazel
Kirk,"
Next Sunday evening the pastor will
preach a New Year's sermon in the
Methodist church.

next Monday in the Hall here. There

able discussion as date draws nearer

Mrs. Robt. Dilworth, of Fort Mc-
Leod, Alberta, is here on a visit, coin-
ing last Saturday. Mrs. I. M. Henry
is a sister to Mrs, Diltvorth. She is a
welcome visitor.
Win. McInnes, son of Andrew Mc-
Innes, arrived home from Saskatoon
Saturday evening. He has been away
or zo months and had a busy season
working at carpentering.
The Sabbath School entertainment
under the auspices of the Methedist
Sabbath School was a tine sucrass.
All performed their parts well and the
"photo albnm" afforded many pleas-
ant bleats.
Rev. Mr. Pearson and his brother
James are home from Victoria Univer-
sity, Toronto, for the holidays, The
former assisted Rev. Mr. Armstrong
in the service in the Methodist

A Local Option meeting will be held
M the Township Hall on Wednesday,
[au. 2nd, at e.30 p. m. The speakers
will be Rev. Mr. Wishart, of Brussels,
and Mr. McIntyre, Principal of the
Busiuess College, Listowel. All are
invited to this meeting.
The Royal Hotel stables have been
leased to Jno. Lamont for a livery
stable. A bus is being run to the
G. T. R. by Mr, Lamont and with the
rig supplied by W. E. Sanders the
travelling public will be well looked

The choir rendered, two anthems in
excellent form on Sabbath evening at
the Christmas service in the methodist
church. Miss R. Spence sang a solo
with pleasing effect, The Christmas
music was greatly appreciated by the
large congregation.
The famous Pitner gasoline -system
is being put into Ethel, Atwood and
other points by the local agents, Messrs
Kreuter & Hemsworth. This week
they are making an exhibit of the light
at Tire Pose Publishing House, Brus-
sels. It is a dandy light and is likely
to prove its worh to the public.
The Debating Society has been re-
organized for the Winter. First debate
will be held in the Gibson Hall Satur-
day evening of this week commencing
at 7.3o o'clock. Subject M " Resolved
that the spendtbrift is more injurious
to•Society than the miser." The cap-
tains are Sam. Campbell and Telf.

A quiet wedding took place in Tor-
onto on Christmas Day when Fred. H.
Masou, of this place, and Miss Annie
Bertha Heaslip, of Toronto, were
,narried by Rev. Mr. Penis. Many
good wishes will be accorded Mr.
Mason and bride in their new relatioe-
ship. We welcome them to Ethel al

quiet wedding was celebrated at high
noon on Dec. stle at the home of Geo.
Kirkby, when his daughter, hiss
Millie, was married to Robt. Watt, of
Hullett, the ceremony being perfor-
med by Rev. S. Anderson, of Blyth.
The bride who was given away by her
farher, looked sweetly pretty in a
gown of white silk tissue, and was un-
attended. After the wedding dinner
was over Mr. and. Mrs. Watt lft for a
trip to Hamilton and other points in
the East. The bride's travelling cos.
tume was of brown broadcloth with
hat to match.
WEDDING BELLS,—Weduesday even-
ing of this week the services ot Rev.
S. Anderson, of Blyth, were called in•
to requsition at the home of the brides
parents, 8th line, when Jno. Marie,
and Miss Edith Willis were made
husband and wife. The immediate
relatives and friends were present.
After the congratulations the company
sat down to a first•class supper.
Numerous, choice and well selected
were the wedding presents. Mr. and
Mrs. Mcllroy will continue to make
their home in this neighborhood we
are pleased to state. May their joys
bo many and their troubles few.

sisters.
The name of Adam Turnbull is men-
tioned as a possible candidate for the
Deputy Reeveship of Grey for the
coming year. He was 10 the Council
for several years.
Robert Lowe bas sold his farm on
the 6th line to Robert Voddeu and has
purchased tbe zoo acres upon which
his brother John lives. Possession
will be got next March,
John Blake is enjoying the Short
vacation of the Detroit Medical Col-
lege by a visit with relatives and old
friends in thie locality. College life
evidently agrees with him. This is his
final year.
Mrs. Alex. Delgstty and daughter,
of Gilbert Plains, Man., arrived here
this week to visit relatives and old
frieuds. Mrs. Hugh Stewart, esth
con., is Mrs. Delgatty's daughter.
They were former residents of the nth
con.
