The
New Pastor of Brussels
Methodist
REV, 19. f}.
At the recent London Conference
of the Methodist church, which con-
vened at the city of Windsor, Rev,Ezra
George Powell, who has been station-
ed at Port Stanley for the past three
years, was appointed pastor of the r
Methodist church Brussels for the in-
coming term and will arrive here to
open his ministry on the first Sabbath
in July. A few personal notes will be
of interest to many, hence we take the
liberty of giving the following sum-
mary :-Rev. Mr. Powell was born at
Courtright,on the river St,Clair, Lamb -
ton Co„ in 1818 ; was convertedat his
mother's knee and called to the minis-
try in early life, After six years of
active labor as a local preacher, during
which period 30 churches were visited,
be entered the regular work in 1893.
Prior to this he had taught the public
school at the village of lMooretown for
5 years, During his probation Mr.
Powell rendered effective service for a
year at Pelee Island , and two. years
at Deleware when he attended Victoria
University, Toronto, for two years.
At the Conference held in Chatham in
June, 1897, be was received into full
connexion and ordaiued. His fields of
labor since have been Morpetb, 2
years; Dutton, 3 years and Port Stan-
ley 3 years, on each his record is
most commendatory being belov-
ed by the congregations be en-
deavored to cheerfully serve. The
brethren of the District have
showed their appreciation of hien
by twice electing him to the Stationing
Committee and twice appointed him

POWELL,
Journal Secretay of the District,
The subject of this sketch bas worked
heartily to advance the best interests
of the young people as well and has
been three times President of the
District Summer School and twice
Missionary Vice President. As a
preacher and pastor Rev. Mr. Powell
stands high and the work on Brussels
charge will no doubt be faithfully look-
ed after iu its various interests.
Mr. and Mrs, Potvell have three
sons, aged respectively, 7, 4 and 2
yen's, all of whom will be welcomed
to the Parsonage.
It tnay not be out of place to state
that the reverend gentleman is la
cousin to the redoubtable British
General, Baden Powell, who valiantly
and victoriously did his duty in the late
South African tear.
Rev. Mr. Powell was cordially in-
vited to remain for a fourth year at
Port Stanley, where he and bis partner
are beloved, but decided iu the best
interests of all concerned he wouid
have to decline.
The names of such pastors as Revds,
Smyth, Swann, Sellery, Salton,
Cobbledick, Allis, Holmes and Cosens
need only to be mentioned to show
bow fortunate the Methodist church in
Brussels has been in its pastors and in
Mr. Powell webelieve the succession
will be maintained. Rev. Mr. Cosens
is the only man who completed a 4
year term and bad it been possible the
church would have been glad to retain
him for another year.

WALTON HOTEL.
Wm. Emigh is the popular proprie-
tor of this hotel; It is no flattery to
say, that the house is kept as very few
country hotels are. Itis far ahead even
of many town hotels. Mr. L'migh sots

county. Good stabling in connection.

the oousty equivalent to this special
legislative grant. This year the general
legislative grant will be apportioned to
