Rev, Mr. Rogers, who has been in the Methodist ministry for the past 31 years, was elected President of the London Conference which met at Windsor last week, on the first ballot, reoeiving 130 votes. He was chairman of the Wing. ham District for a number of years and presided with neatness and dispatch and with the good will of the brethren, The reverend gentleman spent a year on Brussels oironit as junior pastor 26 years ago and is remembered by the old• er members of the church. Mr, Rogers received the oRoial ohair as a reoogni• tion of his uoeelfiahneee and kindlineee to others ocnpled with a thoroughness in all work intrusted to him and the high eateem be has deservedly won io the Con. fermate, He has not been au offioe seeker and seldom took up time on the floor of Cooferenoe. His elevation should give pointers to others. Tao Pon wishes President Rogers a pleasant and profitable tenure of offioe. This will be a batty year owing to General Conference being held in addition to the usually bney twelve months for the President. Mr. Rogers fills the chair with dignity and ability plus an evidence of a vein of dry humor which occasionally lights up the eometimee tedious order of 110eineee. Pre sbytery of Maitland. An adjourned meeting of the Pres- bytery of Maitland took place in Rip- ley on the let day of June, with the Moderator, the Rev. L. Perrin in the ohair. Dr. Murray, and the Clerk read con reepondenoe that took plane between them and Mr. Mercer, who bad been called to Ripley and Bervio. Mr. Mar- oer had agreed to accept the pall, but wished to be allowed to withdraw hie acceptance, The Presbytery agreed to hie request, and the congregations were requeated to begin de novo. A. call from Ridgotowo oongregatioo to the Rev. G. M. Dune, of 'Whitechurch and Langeide was presented. Mr. Mao. Nab prosecuted the oall on behalf of the Presbytery of Chatham, H, D. Henderson, D. Kennedy, Frank Henry, John Gillespie, and Daniel Martin appeared on oohalf of the Ban- don and Congregation of Whiteohoroh ; and A. Gorden, A. McLennan, D. McIntosh and F. G. Moffat on be• halt of those ot Langeide. These all spoke in high appreciation of Otto. Dann and hie work, and expressed the hope that he might see hie way to remain in his present charge. Mr, Dann woe called upon, and the pall having been put intro bie boucle, be stated that owing to the perfect unanimity of the oall, and to the conviction that it wan not well that a minister should stay longer nauallly than five or six years in hie first charge, he desired to accept the call. It was thereupon moved by Dr, Murray, e000nded by Mr. 14IoKerroll, and oar• tied, that the Presbytery having heard Mr. Duettist conviction regarding hie duty in relation to the oall from Ridge. town, agree to hie traualation to the Presbytery of Chatham, and to the severance of his connection with hie present oharge, and with this Preeby• tory, on the 28th of June. In doing so we would record our hearty appreciation ot Mr. Daun, and of the work done by him in hie preeeot charge. He has shown himself a moo of tireless energy, nnbouoded eolbnaism, coneieteut filet. ity, and self eaorifieing devotion to the work God gave him to do. In hie Presbyterial work be hoe been oharaoter ized by the same qualities ea in hie con• gregational, Hte preeeoae could always be depended upon, nnieee Borne more imperative duty pressed. Whatever he did—and he did everything that was required of him—be did with hie miebt, We rejoice in the harmonious relations existing between himeelf and the people to whom during the peat six yenta it has been hie privilege to minister, We prey that God may prosper him in all that he pate his band to in hie new ephera of labor, and that he may be given the greet joy of knowing mgt that hie lab. or in not in vein in the Lord. Mr. Mo$erroll was appointed interim Moderator of the Whilechorob and Longside Sessions. Mr, MioNab rendered t be report nn 0tatietfca, and aided that taste had been substantial gain in familiee and members daring 1005, as well as a grafi. tying increase in contributions for eelf eupport, He also orated that he Uhl been asked by Dr. Lyle, Convener of tbo Aosembly'e Augmentation Com. mitten, to call the Presbytery's anon. tion to the needs of the Augmentation Fund. While roost Preobyteriee of the Oburob had iuoreasod their ooatributiane to this Fond last year to melte the payment of the B inoren m paY sd minimum stipend poeeibl0, Maitland P60 one of the few that had failed to do eo. The report was received and adopted. Ao the oougregation of Melville church, Bruennts, has extended n call to a minister, it was agreed that the Pree. bytery hold an adjourned meeting there on Timidity, the 19th instant, at 3 p, In, it was agreed to deler fixing the place for the September moeang until June 19th, as the Presbytery has no official ioforma0ion as to where the Young Peoples' Convention fa to take place, and that the (clerk take °tape to find out meanwhile regarding the same.
