43RD YEAR NO 3Z
`clung
Advance.
WINOIIAM, ONT., TUURSDAY, MAY 6, 1915
Langemarc.
The maple leaf 18 stained with red,
Deeper than autumn's dye;
Our foreign fields our noble dead
Their valor testify.
Cut off, outnumbered, ten to one,
By wolfish German pack
Oar men like heroes fought and won,
They kept their foeenen back.
They held their post, they saved the day
Those young lion from the Weet;
What higher tribute can we pay,
"They fought like Britain's best."
When reinforcements came at last,
Then woe betide the Huns,
From man to man the word was passed
"We must retake the guns."
Mid rifle ball, and poison bomb,
Shrapnel and shrieking shell,
.And all the hell of liaiserdom,
They charged, while hundreds fell.
With fearless eye and ringing cheer,
They made that wild advance,
For life was cheap and glory dear,
Those bloody days in France,
0, life is sbort to him who gives
Long years for selfish pay;
In righteous cause, the soldier lives
A lifetime in a day,
ONLOOKER.

platform to several men whose names
were not on the program, and the au-
dience was tired out, At last be in•
'reduced the candidate thus: "Mr.

Valedictory.
No matter how robust a man may
be, there is a limit to his nervous
energy. Ten business colleges in ten
different towns and cities, drawing
students from almost every section of
Ontario, and also editing and man•
aging a newspaper, has' proven too
much for the Editor to properly
attend to, so, for the past six months,
we have seriously considered which
line of business should he disposed of
and finally concluded to stay with our
first love, the teaching profession.
The Advance with this issue passes
into the hands of one of the most suc-
cessful business men in Ontario, who
wilt retain the present staff, headed
by a competent Managing - Editor.
Reeve Joynt' is no stranger to our
readers and we wish him every success.
In less than three years, we have
doubled the advertising, added six
hundred new subscribers, increased
the job patronage, and we know Mr.
Joynt will attain greater things.
• Our subscribers, whom we are loathe
Vie pert, and who are making it all the
harder by expressing their regrets
have our profoundest gratitude for
their loyalty. 'The business men of
Wingham have made this journal one
of the largest advertising weekly
papers in Ontario and are deserving of
our sincerest thanks.
The writer can not let this opportu=nity pass wit hent extending to Mr.
H. 13. Elliott, Editor of the Wingham
Times, bis personal thanks for hie
unfailing kindness and coprtesy
Whenever our machinery went wrong
he cheerfully ran our Tory sheet on
bis Grit press. vve wish him eontinu•
ed success, which he richly deserves.

MOD.
The writer will still live in Wing -
ham and conduct his chain of coll.ges
from this paint Befeee dividing e.ur
energies, it was ,•ustornary to have
nne hundred students attending the
Wingham Business College, and we
will again attain this the incoming
yesr. •
'Again extending our heartfelt
thank,' to all our newspaper friends
and asking all whose labels are not
correct or where there is any error
with dailies or weeklies to call and
explain same, we make oar exit.
Sincerely yonre,
GEORGE SPOTTON,
