in Centre Toronto, Mr. Bertram, the
Liberal candidate, was authorized to
give the assurance to the maoufac

and nn the strength of that Mr. Ber-

the Hon. leader of the Oppositinn. I
will go further, and say that during
rhe fifteen years the right Hon.gentle-

carried on the policy of protection'.
What did be do when he went out of
office in 1911, after he had entered into
that reciprocity agreement with the
United States, and was asking for thi-

.I think that is conclusive evidence
that the Liberal party when in power
were protectioniste. The manufac-

1 think the judgement of our Finance
Minister is such as to be worthy of
comwendetion by the people of this
country. He has remained with the
policy which has proved successful,
not under the Conservative party
alone, but under our Liberal friends
opposite,
Now, Mr. Speaker, I ask where
eland our friends on the Opposition
benches to -day? They have gone hack
to the nld position that they held prior
to 1890; they are hark now to decrying
the manufacturers of the country;

That is very ditlivulr, to understand.
Speaking as a farmer, speaking in

have every respect for the agricultural

it succeed. I think it is the greatest
mistake to try and create a cleavage
