Norton knew very welt that if need

execute a melodramatic plan of this
charac`er. It was the way of th
Slav; they had to make crime ab-
normal in order to erjoy it. They
could very well have knocked him on
the head then and there and have
done with him. But the time used in
conveying him to the railroad might
prove his salvation. Nearly four
hours had passed since the sending of
the telegram ro Jones.
They bound Florence and left her
seated in the chair, As soon as they
were gone she rolled to thelioor. She

hands and wrists, but the blaze was,

Jones arrived with half a dozen
policeman. Vroon alone escaped.
The butler caught Florence in his
arms and nearly crushed the breath
out of her. And she was so glad to

dersn times. Wheat if he was her
father's butler? He was brave and
loyal and kind.
"They tied him to the track," she
cried. •'Look at my wrists!' The
Nutter did so, and kissed them tender-
ly. "And I 'saved him,"
Jones stretehed out a hand over

Mr. Churchill said that consieeriu,,
the work the navy had„done in the
protection of British commerce, the
restrictions it had placed on the
enemy's supplies and' tho convoying
by it of great numbers of troops to

eyes fixed on the mischances that has:
occurred and knowing all the circum

Even if 1?: ;;land were single-handed
there would be no reason to despair,

growing greater every month, until at
the end of perhaps a not very distant
date, we achieve the purpose for
which we aro fighting."
As for building, Mr. Churchill said,
England would add fifteen capital
ships to her fleet before- the end of
i 1915 to Gerrnany's three. In fact, he
declared, England could lose one
super-dreadnorght monthly for a year
and still maintain her superiority
over Germany in these ships.
Light cruisers, Mr. Churchill con-
tinued, were being rapidly added 'to
the British fleet, and England had
commissioned "ince the commen_e-
ment of the war more than Germany
had had destroyed or interned. This
number, including the Breslau, he
said, amounted to six.
