ADDRESS AND PRESENTATION. On Monday evening, June 16th, the members and adherents of Calvin Church met at the home of Mr, John Menzies, sr., for a social evening and to bid farewell to their pastor, Rev, Jas. Ferguson and his wife, Mr. Fer- guson has spent nearly five years in the ministry at Calvin Church and much regret was felt upon his depart- ure for a new field of labor. During the evening an address was read and a beautiful silver to set was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson, being a gift of remembrance from the congregation and the choir which Mrs. Ferguson had so freely and faithfully assisted. Miss Annie Leaver and Mr. Charles King made tlhe presentation while Mr. J. T. Currie read the following address: June 16th, 1913. Calvin Church, East Wawanosh Tp. Dear Mr. and Mrs, Ferguson:- - We have gathered here this evening to express our regard and friendship for you. We would like you to carry away with you to your new home -vary happy associations connected with Calvin Church and your life among us. So when you think of us let the happi- ness of true friendship fill your hearts, and remember that you have left the same feeling in our hearts. Yet we would have you feel regret on leaving us, the regret which "resembles sorrow only as the mist resembles rain." Of your work among us, we cannot speak. Only the soul can tell of the higher emotions, loftier ideals, stronger faith and greater love to man and to God which have been aroused by the preaching of the Gospel in its purity, with earnestness of purpose and desire. Let us assure you then that your work among us has not been, nor shall be fruitless and remember "Ours is the seed -time; God alone beholds the end of what is sown." "Beyond our vision weak and dim The harvest time is hid with Hiin." We would like also to express our ap- preciation of your faithfulness in all your duties in connection with your pas- torate at Calvin Church. Perhaps we would especially mention your assist- ance given so freely and willingly to the choir. Its members feel that they are sustaining a great loss in losing both conductor and leader at once, More than all the choir will miss your readi- ness to help, your sympathy and the pleasant relationship which has existed among yon. As a visible token of our love and friendship, we the members of the con- gregation of Calvin Church and its choir, offer you this tea -set. We hope that its beauty and usefulness may serve you in your future home. and all your life, especially that it may convey to you the good will and esteem of this con re re atlon is our hope and heart- felt desire p Above all else we hope that your future lives will be happy, and useful, as here, for the Master and crowned with God's richest blessings. J. 012ELR THE SHOE MAN {READY MADE FARMS Forty years ago our cousins south of the line were singing "Uncle Sam is rich enough to give us all a farm" and thousands upon thousands of Canadians accepted the offer and settled in the Western Sates, but now the situation is changed, Uncle Sam has no more farms to give awati, DD and the people are treking north tied > west to the great provinces of Sask- e atehewan and Alberta. The Great Home Land is rapidly filling up, peo- pie are flocking in from all over the world, every day two new school houses are opened, the railroads are being rapidly extended in all direc- tions, the buffalo runs have given place to broad fields of grain and wealthy cities have grown up where only a few short years ago nothing but the smoke from the Indians teepee blurred the evening sky. t Two great facte stand forth pro- minently as one studies the condi- tions in our great west at present, viz: (1) The people must have railroads.
