K h.'S,I,10 rl', PrEILISIIER AND k'aolnaTott THURSDAY, MAY 1, 1913. EDITORIAL NOTES 1-10 1. A. G. McKay has resigned ai member of the Ontario Legislature for North Grey. Mr. MacKay is now in ac- tive no:ities in Alberta. There is no sugge' .on :rt present when the writ will issue, but it is likely that the mat- ter viii remain in abeyance until a per_ manent appointment is made to the pro- vincial treasurership. In the Spring Most People Need a Tonic Medicine. One of the surest signs that the blood 1 is out of order is the pimples, unsightly w eruptions and eczema that come fre- - qucntly with the change from winter to spring. These prove that the long in- door life of winter has had its effect upon the blood, and that a tonic medicine is needed to put it right. Indeed there are few people who do not need a tonic at this season. Bad blood does not • merely show itself in disfigurin erup- ' tions. To this same eonditi is due attacks of rheumatism an lumbago; the sharp stabbing pains o sciatica and neuralgia; poor appetite aid a desire to avoid exertion. You cannot cure these troubles by the use of purgative medi- eines you need a tonic, and a tonic only, and among all m i 'nes there is none can equal Dr. Wil ' ms' Pink Pills for 'their tonic, life-giving, nerve -restoring. powers. Every dose of this medicine makes new, rich blood which t:rives out impurities, stimulates every organ and brings a feeling of new health and energy to weak, tired, ailing men, women and children. If you are out of sorts give this medicine a trial and see how quickly it will restore the appetite,, revive drooping spirfts, and fill your veins with new health -giving blood. You can get these pills from any medicine dealer or by mail at 50 cents a box or six boxes for $2.50 from The Williams' Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont. With the passing of the closure re- solutions on the evening of April 2,3rd, has open el a new era of Parliamentary life in Cnnadtr; an era the result of which upon the nation's history can only be judged by the course of events. Closure was carried by a solid Govern- ment vote -as would be the case in every proposition fathered by Mr. Bor- den and Mr. Rogers, but its full mean- ing is impossible to determine so invol- ved is its phraseology. This was shown by the many differences of opinion dur- ing the debate, and the fact that the Premier was willing to put in amendment before the scheme he and his followers had arranged made it im- possible. SENSATIONAL CHARGES. Serio::s and sensational charges were preferred by Mr. Wm. Proudfoot (Cen- tre Huron), in the Legislature on Wed- nesday of last week against Sir James Whitney, prime minister, and Hon. W. J. Hanna, provincial secretary. These charges arose out of the disclosures in connection with the public accounts in- vestigation of the settlement with Tay- lor, Scott & Co., in respect to the Cen- tral Prison contract. They are made by Mr. Proudfoot upon his responsibility as a member of the House, and will be gone into by the committee on privil- eges and elections. It has already been acknowledged by the Premier that a campaign contribution was accepted from a member of the firm. but both the Premier and Mr. Hanna emphatic- ally deny any wrong doing in the mat- ter. The Globe Thursday says: "Mr. Proud - foot has undertaken a serious public duty. No man likes to see the Legis- lature in which he sits disgraced, nor even the Cabinet he opposes revealed as corrupt. That he has faced a dis- agreeable duty when it confronted him through the evidence which came to his knowledge shows in abundance the qualities essential in meeting the varied demands of public life. It is a time for the withholding of judgement, It is not conceivable that Mr. Proud - foot would make the charges and ask a hearing before a commission ission of judges if he did not have unassailable evidence. This will be awaited with eagerness. The Premier and Provincial Secretary will be on trial before the committee, and that committee and the Legislature it represents will be on trial before the people of the Province." The committee will hold sessions this week to investigate the charges, and while the committee is proceeding with its work the House stands adjourned until May 6th. All good citizens on both sides of politics will be interested to see that the relation of Mr. Taylor and his firm with the Government shall be fair- ly and thoroughly investigated. LIVE STOOK 15I4.1tHETS Toronto, April 29th. -There was but little life in the tradiug at the Union Stock Yards to -day, business being slow, and but for the fact the run was a moderately light one prices would probably have eased off. As it was, they barely held steady with last week's quotations. There were some good loads of choice cattle offering, but bids were slow, though going up to $7.00 and higher, and refused.
