Don't pull a long face and get sour in your stom ch. Hope a bit. Get a smile on you. Hold up your head. Get a hold with both hands. Then pull. Bury your hatchet drop your tomahawk. When a stranger drops in, jolly him. Tell him this is the greatest town on earth it is. Don't get mulished. Don't roast. Get popular it's dead easy. Help yourself along. Push your friends with you. Soon you'll have a whole procession. Be a good fellow. No man ever helped himself by knocking other people down. No man ever got rich trying to make other people be- lieve he was the only good man on earth. You can't climb the ladder of fame by stepping on other people's corns. They're their corns -not yours -they're tender. Keep off the corns, All men are not alike. Once in a while you may find one who is very, very much alike. Bat some are different. You are not the only one. If you don't like their style let 'em alone. Don't knock. Walk right in. Make your- self look pleasant. You'll get used to it. There's no end of fun in minding your own business. And it makes oth- er people like you better. Better have others stuck on you than get stuck on yourself. Nobody gets stuck on a knocker. Between 19111 and 1911 the population of the three prairie provinces of Cana- da was increased by nearly one million; by this time the increase must be con- siderably more than a million. The three Provinces of Manitoba, Al - jberta and Saskatchewan are entitled to at least three times their present rep - t resentation in the House of Commons, The population of Alberta and Saskat- chewan has increased five or six times, and the representation ought to be pre- 1 portionately increased. Instead of giving provinces a large number of new representatives, to be elected by the people of the West, the Government proposes to give them six ! new Senators to be appointed at Otta- i West, wa men who may possibly hold views absolutely opposed to those of the Y ; and who may misrepresent instead of voicing their opinions. The Senate as at present constituted I would be well within its right in reject_ ing this measure, and insisting that the new Senators shall not be appointed un- til the representation of the Western Provinces in the House of Commons is increased so as to represent adequately its largely increased population. Local Option Recounts. At Kincardine on Friday last County Judge Barrett held a scrutiny of the ballots cast in the recent local option contest in that town. Two more votes for the by-law were found on the count and five voted withopt the right to do so. This would still, have the by-law as carried. One man voted in two polling plans and on this point the judge re. served his decision as to whether it would affect the by-law. In Clinton last week Juke Halt held a scrutiny on the local option ballots cast in that town. In one ward the deputy -returning ofii- cer'reported a majority of 33 for local option, but -Co the surprise of the court, when the ballots were taken out of the boy: and counted the majority had been reduced to 5. Mr. Proudfoot, acting for the temnerance_people, asked leave to produce the evidence of the deputy returning officer an4 poll clerk in order to show that the ballots had been tam• pored with during the time intervening since the .election, but the judge did not accept the evidence, not being convinc- ed'tliat he had the right to do so. The Peter McArthur tells us in the Far- mer's Advocate that he shipped apples from Appin to Edmonton, and the to- tal cost for picking, packing, barrel, hauling, freight, etc. was $2.75 a bar- rel. If the apples were worth 75 cents a barrel in Appin, that would mean they would cost $3.50 in Edmonton. But they sold for $7. Experts in automobile statistics tell us that of the 50,000 motor cars in use in Canada 40,000 have been imported from the United States. For these Canada has paid the manufacturers of that country eighty millions of dollars, besides twenty millions in duty. ghese figures, if accurate, indicate a great future for the Canadian automobile in- dustry, if the manufacturer is alive to his opportunities. -Canadian Courier. Some men never make mistakes sim- ply because they never do anything. Lent begins this year at an earlier date than has been the case for 138 years. Easter Sunday is always the first Sunday after the full moon which happens upon or next after the 21st of March, so that March 22 is the earliest date upon which Easter can fall. It comes this year on March 23, the earl- iest since the year 1775. A correspond- ent in the London Free Press corrects this by saying that Easter came as early as March 22 in 1818. In 1912 in the United States $19,000- 000 were spent fighting tuberculosis.
