WEST WAWANO5H.
A well-known and esteemed resident
of West Wawanosh, in the person of
Matthew Sproul, of the 2nd concession,
died on Sunday evening, January 12th,
as the result of injuries received the
previous evening. Mr. Sproul was in
the stable putting a blanket on a horse
which had just come in from a trip to
McGaw when the 'animal kicked, knock-
ed him down and crushed him severely.
Mr. Sproul was seventy-one years of
age and is survived by three sons and
two daughters: David and James, of
West Wawanosh; Matthew, of I:uck-
now; Mrs. Thos. McIntyre, of Ashfield,
and, Mrs. W. J. Davison, of Stirlitig-
ville, Mich. -
Very sudden and sad was the death
on Monday, January 13th, on the 12th.
concession of West Wawanosh of Hugh
McPherson Watson. On Friday pre-
vious, when at a social gathering he
was taken suddenly ill, but later re-
covered and was able to come to town
sh Saturday. On Monday morning he
started across the field to his own farm
from his brother's, but when about
half way across he became very ill
again and immediately retraced his
steps. On a chair in his brother Peter's
house he expired a few minutes after-
wards, before medical help could arrive.
He was just in the prime of life, being
only in his thirty-fourth year; a quiet,
respected young man, against whom no
one spoke ill.

Last week James Bowman, M. P.,
returned to Ottawa to fill his seat in
the Dominion Parliament.
1013 will see the municipality's work
done by the same staff as served in the
past years with the exception of the
veteran Assessor, Jno. Watson, who
resigned, will be succeeded by Thos.
Miller, a young man well and favorably
known in Morris township. The on;y
new face at the Council Board is Coun-
cillor Duncan Johnston.
$27,573.38 was the total amount of
taxes on Collector Procter's roll for 19I2
and he has collected it without any re-
bate. It means a lot of work but he is
an old head at the job having served 12
years. 5 per cent. will be added this
year after December 14th, it is said,
which will have a hastening effect.
