There passed away at his home on Albert street on i Sunday last, another of Wingham's pioneers in the person of Peter S. Linklater. The deceased gentleman had been in poor health since last Janua y. He was born in the Orkney Isl nds nearly seventy years ago and w en twelve years of age, in company with the other mem- bers of the family•he carne to Canada and settled in this section and he had therefore been a rOsident of Wingham for nearly fifty-ei ht years. He had seen what is no the town site of Wingham converts from the forest to a progressive town. Mr. Linklater was for many years book-keeper for 3. J. Anderson, wh had control of the Wingham saw mills, and of late years he bad been engag d in the grocery business. He was a very mild manner- ed man and of a retiring disposition but he had a very large circle of friends. In religion he was a' Presbyterian and for nearly thirty -fie years had been an Elder in St. Andpw's Presbyterian Church and for matly years was active in Sunday school work. In politics he was a Liberal and ad always taken an active interest inublie affairs, For nearly thirty years he had been a mem- ber of Court Maitl nd, Canadian Order of Foresters. Mr. Linklater was the youngest of a fam ly of ten children, the surviving me hers being Wm. Linklater, Lower ingham; Andrew Linklater, Wingha ; John Linklater, in the West; Mrs. John Currie, sr., East Wawanosh a d Mrs. C. Young, Wingham. He was twice married, his first wife being Mis McGregor, and by this marriage a son and daughter sur- vive, viz: --Peter inklater and Mrs. Gowans, who res'de in the West. Thirty years ago e was married to Miss Helm, who, ith one daughter, \Irs. L. C. Young, of Winnipeg, sur- vive. The bereave will have the sym- pathy of many frie s in their afflict- ion.
