Brussels Creamery has three wagons on the cream routes this season, driven by E. ()rich, J. Wright and J. Shurrie and the outlook is the best on record. The Laymen's Missionary Banquet held in Melville Church on Tuesday evening of last week was a great suc- cess. There was a large attendance of men ; between 115 and 120 at down to a most sumptuous repast, provided by the ladies of the congregation. Lucknow: Treleaven Bros. recently shipped a car of flour to Quebec, Messrs. F. W. Rooklidge and H. G. Ferguson of Pilot Mound, Man„ have purchased the hardware business of A. H. Cross. In the year 1900, the population of Kinloss township was 2252. In 1905, it was 2004. In 1910 it is 1690, repre- senting a decrease in the past ten years of 572. During the past week, workmen have been busy cleaning and grading around the new Town Hall ; no pret- tier public property will be found in any village in Ontario. 'John Miller, aged 17, who lives with his parents, Mr, and Mrs, Jacob Miller, on the 2nd con., was seriously injured by the explosion of a gun cartridge' on Thursday last. The victim of the ac- cident, in company with his younger brother had gone on an errand across the road to Geo. Irwin's. At the lat- ter place a blank gun cartridge, which had been fitted oat with a fuse after the manner of a fire -cracker, was load- ed with powder and lighted for dis- charge. Evidently it hung fire or was approached too soon, but while the elder boy stooped over it, to investi- gate, the explosion occurred and the contents lodge squarely in his face. A terrible wound resulted. Both eyes were temporarily blinded ; -the flesh was brown from the bone in two places, and the remaining portions of the face were left raw and discolored as if recently burned by fire, Rural Mail Delivery. Up to the present 352 rural mail de• livery routes have been established in Canada. Of these the majority are in Ontario, there being comparatively few in Quebec and the Maritime Prov- inces. Not many routes have been granted in the West owing to the lack of population, —Lake Superior was swept by a raging storm, last week, —Down in Orangeville they are feel- ing bad because the assessment is about $16,000 lower than last year, some $11,000 of a reduction being be- cause of the lowering of the assess- ment of the six hotels. —One hundred and one. persons were killed and 1,051 were injured on the steam, roads and electric railways of Pennsylvania ha the month of April, according to complete reports made to the State Railroad Com- mission. Messrs, Ross Bros., of Nichol, above Fergus, have 'a wagon, that is known to be at least sixty years old, having been built by tae late Matthew An- derson, of Fergus, It is in a better state of preservation than many wag- gons only a few years old. Leckie Wilson that within ten years the farms of Ontario will double in value, lie explains this by the statement that the present high prices for farm produce and the increase of popula- tion will result In a greater demand for farm property as: a fine paying investment. Heavy Hail. Storm. A heavy hailstorm visited, Innerkip on Sunday May 29th, doing consider- able damage to the grain crops, trees and small fruits, The hail was as. large as pigeons' eggs, and smashed the green -houses belonging to. Callan & Hall to pieces, breaking four thou- sand lights and destroying many plants. Lasting half an hour, the storin left hailstones lying to a depth of six inches in places. To Flowers. The Ripley Expreea had the follow• ing James Saunders has a very high regard for the sacredness of the pulpit and Bible, but has no particular regard for nature in all its beauty, For this reason he objected to a boa- quet of flowers being placed on. Huron Church pulpit. Immediately after the services on Sunday he carried the vase with the beautiful flowers to tha door of the church and destroyed them. Just why Mr. Saunders should object to flowers in the pulpit is prob- ably blown, only by himself. The Garden of Eden is said to have con- tained flowers and fruit. Mr. Salm- dere was not prepared too accept this kind of decorations for a church pul- pit. The vase which was an orna- mental vessel of an antique pattern was broken in many pieces. The pas- tor will probably adjust the difficulty to the satisfaction of the congregation when he returns home from the Gen- eral Assembly. The loss suffered by Mr. O'Neill on account of the explosion at his mill at. Kenilworth, is estimated by the Arthur Enterprise at $4,000, • HAVE YOU A BAD SORE.
