Royal Homes expansion
proceeding on schedule
The expansion project at Royal
Homes in Wingham is proceeding on
schedule, according to Doug
Kuyrenhoven, company spokesman.
In recent years business has in-
creased steadily for the company
which started 17 years ago in
Wingham.
The most recent expansion in-
volves the construction of a plant
which will supply Royal Homes with
windows for the 500 homes the
company hopes to, manufacture in
1968. Mr. Kuyvenhoven hopes the
window factory will be operational
by February of next year and will
employ six to 10 people.
An additional 3,600 square feet of
office space is currently being
constructed at the. site, says Mr.
Kuyvenhoven, adding this project
should be complete by March of next
year.
In addition to ,the Wingham
operation, Royal Homes has just
purchased Huron Haven Village
north of Goderich, which the firm
hopes to develop by next year.
The offer to purchase for a new
Royal Homes plant at Peterborough
also has been signed and now the
company is active with zoning for
the new plant. Mr. Kuyvenhoven
says he hopes production will begin
there by the end of 1988.
with Doreen Suter in Ethel.
Addressing the crowd of over 100
which included several persons who
had to stand throughout the evening
because seating space was filled,
were representatives of Canada
Post, Rural Dignity, and area
politicians.
Chairing the meeting which lasted
approximately 2% hours was
Lorraine Robinson who organized
the event after learning of the
contract offered to Ms. Suter on Oct.
21.
Ms. Suter who recently purchased
the general store in Ethel believing
she would also take on the job of
village postmaster, was given until
Nov.1 to sign a contract.
That contract, she said, will pay
her from $3,000 to $5,000 per year in-
stead of the $19,000 which was paid
to the former Ethel postmaster who
retired at the beginning of October.

meeting was Richard Bowness, 'In

Firemen called
out once during
Hallowe'en night
The Wingham and Area Fire
Department had a reasonably quiet
Hallowe'en this year, being called
out just once.
Doug Carr, a spokesman for the
department, said firefighters were
alerted at 10:50 p.m. Oct. 31 to ex-
tinguish a rubbish fire on Highway
86 in front of Tolton's garage at
Bluevale in Turnberry Township.
Mr. Carr said the department was
notified of the blaze by the Ontario
Provincial Police. Hallowe'en
pranksters are being blamed for the
fire.
In a separate incident last
Saturday, morning, the department
was called to the Lynn Hoy property
at Lot 25, Con. 10 of Turnberry
Township. Mr. Carr said firemen
were summoned to bring a rubbish
fire under control which was close to
some buildings and a tractor.

on role study
The Board of Governors of
Wingham and District Hospital will
hold a special one -day seminar early
next year to discuss the contents of a
recently completed role study for
the hospital.
At the board's regular October
session, Dr. Brian Hanlon
management committee chairman,,
recommended the special day -long
meeting at which board members
will be asked to comment on the
study and its recommendations.
Members of the management
committee met Oct. 8 to review the
final draft of the role study and has
made a number of conclusions based `
on their discussion at that meeting.
However, the committee still seeks
input from other board members
and is suggesting a January or
February date for the one -day
seminar in order to allow the board
members,.. sufficient time in which to
review the document.
Date of the seminar will be an-
nounced later by the management
committee.

Wingham native honored
by his entomologiseers
Dr. Glenn Wylie of Winnipeg was t se
honored recently by his peers by
being made an honorary member of
the Entomological Society of
Canada.
This distinction is reserved for a
small number of entomologists who
are considered by their colleagues to
have made significant contributions
not only to the science of entomology
in this country, but for their leading
roles in the society's activities and
liaison with the public.
Born in Wingham, Dr. Wylie
received a B.A.(Honors Zoology) at
the University of Toronto in 1949. He
was hired as a technical assistant in
that same year in what was to turn
out to be a long and productive
career.
One of his first assignments was to
travel to, Europe in search of
parasites and predators which
might be useful for control of
Balsam fir aphid.
In 1972, he moved to Winnipeg,
where he continued his work on
biological control and investigated
the parasites of three major insect
pests of Prairies crops — the bertha
armyworm, the rapeseed flea
beetles, and the pea aphid —
resulting in the successful relew*
and establishment of several im-
ported species.
Although he retired in U&Iary,
19e7, Dr. Wylie has always been
generous with his time, exper T
and organizational abilities. He has
served at both the regional and
national levels on many committees,
including secretary to the
Entomological Society of Canada,
and president of the Entomological
Society of Manitoba.

Following" the release of a con-
ciliation officer's report on Thurs-
day, the company made another
offer to the more than 180 employees
in the CBRT and GW bargaining
unit. In a statement released on the
weekend, the company indicated the
subsequent vote was 82 per cent in
favor of accepting the agreement.
The new contract, retroactive to
July 1, 1387, calls for an immediate
hourly wage adjustment of 50 cents
in the first year, with further staged
adjustments totalling 50 cents per
hour minimum in both the second
and third years of the contract.
Planned overtime production
shifts for Friday and Saturday
nights were cancelled as the
agreement now assures that
customer requirements can be
satisfied through regular production
shifts.
