The Howick WOAA
Peewees traveled to Harris -
ton last Thursday for a
league game to determine
first place. Harriston.
Howick and Teeswater each
had only lost one game to
date this season.
The two teams lived up to
the billing as both played as
if it were a playoff match.
The action was fast paced
from the opening whistle.
Steve MacDougall and David
Ross scored for Harriston to
take an early 2-0 lead. Jeff
Benniger increased the lead
to 3-0 early in the second
frame.
Howick finally hit the
score sheet on a powerplay
goal by Philip Livermore on
a great pass from linemates
Jayson Potts and John
Greig.
Steve Gibson narrowed the
gap to 3-2 after taking passes
from Jason Jacobson and
Craig King. Thirty-seven
seconds later, Potts tied the
game at three apiece after
being set up by Philip
Livermore and Greig.
Ross scored his second
going into the third period.
Many excellent scoring
chances were missed by both
teams in the final frame due
to some outstanding goal-
tending on' the part of both
squads.The only goal of the
third period came off' the
stick of Potts to send Howick
home with a 44 tie. Greig
drew an assist on the final
Howick marker, his third
assist of the night.
The two teams were
looking forward to a rematch
on Tuesday.
Last Saturday the Listowel
Cyclone PeeWees scored five
unanswered . goals in the
third period to completely
outclass the Howick
PeeWees by a 6-3 score.
The first period ended with
the teams deadlocked at one. .
goal each. Greig scored for
Howick after taking a great
pass from Philip Livermore.
Howick scored two
unanswered goals in the
second period, both by
Bowlin.g
Andrew Weber. Gibson set
up Weber perfectly , on the
first -goal and Jacobson also
drew an assist on both goals.
The third period was
dominated li the Listowel
sgyad as the ,Howick boys
quit forechecking and,back-
checking and left goalies
Peter Stewart and Mark
Fraser alone on many oc-
casions to face the Listowel
sharpshooters. Gary Smith
and Thomas Huist paced the
Listowel attack with two
goals each. Single tallies
went to Aaron Pilon and
Steve Morris into an empty
net.
RON'S ROUND -UP -The
coaching staff welcomed
Paul Douglas back from his
Alberta trip. The staff also
was impressed with the play
of Douglas, Jaret Henhoef-
fer, King and Donald Liver-
more, on .defence. Philip
Livermore got his 50th assist
of the season in last Satur-
day's Listowel game.
