With the 1979 International

proportions in Kent County.
. J One of the first to be affected
was Ian Maynard of RR 3,

t Chatham. Five years ago he was
..: asked to host the match and he
agreed immediately.
Asked why he would invite
more than a quarter of a million
people to walk and drive over his
alfalfa field, his response was: "I
feel like reciprocating the honor
I that so many other host farmers
N have extended to me over the
years. It's been 60 years since
Kent last held the match and i
think it's about time we had it
back here again," he added.
The 73 -year-old Harwich
Township farmer was quick to
include his neighbors in his
remarks. "Without them we
wouldn't have been able to make
up the 600 acres needed for the
plowing match."
