The Wingham Ironmen blit up
a 5-1 second period lead and bold
on in the third for a 5.4 win in the
sixth and deciding game of their
beat of seven germs with the
Meaford Monarchs. After losing
the first two gams of the sells
the Ironmen stormed back with
four straight wins.
The Monarchs struggled back
with three goals in 'title third
period to tighten the score, but
fell short of the tying marker.
Following two periods of play
q Wingham held a 32-14 edge in
shots on goal and was full value
for the 5-1 lead. However
Meaford, in a desperate bid to
gain a tie and force overtime, fell

fourth goal with but one second
remaining in the game.
CONSOLATION ACTION -The Orillia goaltender made some great saves Sunday after-
noon to help his team -hold on to a slim 2-1 margin over Dearborn in Midget AAA consola-
tion action. Dearborn forward Dale Beckman, number 17 in the dark sweater, bowled
over the goalie with his effort on this play, but the puck at the goalie's toe stayed out of the
net. Orillia won the AAA consolation title.
Meaford held an 18-7 edge in
shots on goal in the third period
and dominated play throughout
the period. The team had but 12
players dressed for the game,
two of them Midgets brought up
to fill out the roster and two
goaltenders. Down by four goals
and facing elimination the
Monarchs displayed great
sportsmanship aad never gave
up.
Meaford struck for the game's
first goal as Chet Couture blasted
a 25 -footer to Taylor's glove side.
Dale Whitfigld got that one back
when he fired a quick shot low to
Power's stick side following a
pass from Scott Wheeler. Jim
McGee then rifled if shot from the
Oluellllc wiu ., uu ua•.swua
flipped the rebound over Power's
outstretched body. McGee Wade
it 3-1 before the period ended on a
great individual play. He picked
up the puck, in the corner, faked
the defenceman to the ice and
backhanded the puck to Power's
far side.
The Ironmen kept rolling in the
second stanza on goals by Ed
Haines and Jay MacLaurin.
Haines blasted a shot from the
point that found the mark, with
the goalie screened on the play.
MacLaurin's goal came off a
centring pass from Sandy Henry
in the corner and Power had no
chance on the play.
In the third period Brian Shaw
banged in his own rebound as he
displayed a great deal of hustle in
drilled a shot from the point that
narrowed the margin to 5-3 and
Russ Robinson ended the scoring
with one second remaining in the
game after a goal -mouth
scramble.
Wingham now awaits the
winner of the Fergus-Wiarton
series.
