GIRLS FINISH
BASKETBALL SEASON
The Senior Girls' Basketball
team finished their season on
November 4th, playing one of
their better g9mes• against Nor-
well. A poor second quarter com-
bined with the fact that Norwell
scored 12 foul shots to Madill's
four, gave Norwell the lead. The
final score: Norwell 42, Madill 34.
The seniors finish the season with
five wins and five losses. They
missed making the playoffs by
only one game.
The Junior Girls' Basketball
team also played Norwell on the
fourth. They clinched a position
in the Huron -Perth semi-finals by
defeating Norwell 32-30. Good
team work was evident in the
game, both in offence where we
scored a number of baskets using
the fast break and on defense
where the press rattled the op-
position.
The girls played a sudden -
death semi-final game on Wed-
nesday, November 10th. Despite
the encouraging support from
hundreds of fans, the team ended
their sea:ion when they suffered
defeat at the hands of Goderich.
The first half of play proved very
defensive in nature with an all
time scoring low of 6-3 in Goder-
ich's favor. In the second half, the
opposition's full court press
turned the game in Goderich's
favor. Our girls tried desperately
to break it, but the pressure
proved too great and constant
turnovers and violations
resulted. The final score was 20-9
for Goderich. Despite a dis-
appointing end to the season, the
girls' over all improvement
during the season and their total
record of seven wins and three
losses this year in the league
schedule is very creditable.
Congratulations to both teams
for their great effort throughout
the season!
VOLLEYBALL
SEASON BEGINS
The girls' volleyball season has
just opened. School spirit was
very well shown this last week as
over 40 girls tried out for our
teams. Unfortunately, everyone
wasn't able to make the team, but
their effort was greatly ap-
preciated.
Mrs. Shaw will be coaching the
Senior team this year, and Miss
Schofield will coach the Junior
team. They have been invited to a
tournament on the twelfth, where
they will play Listowel and
Walkerton. They also have a
tournament, January 15. it is an
18 team tournament with teams
from London, St. Thomas,
Strathroy, Goderich and Witig-
ham. They are very much looking
forward to this as Stratford
Central is our main rival and
there is always a large turnout.
The girls are all looking forward
to a successful and enjoyable
season. Beat of luck, girls!
