Howick township council studies lower speed limits The Howick Township council is studying a suggestion by the Ministry of Transportation to lower the speed limit in Wroxeter and Gorrie to 40 mph. The speed limit is now 45 mph. The villages are situated just off Highway 87. Council is supporting the reso- lution of the Town of Exeter regarding standards of the National Building Code for are- nas. The resolution asks that the Ministry of Labor be requested to use the standards of the National Building Code that were in effect at the time of the construction or renovation of the arena when determining the structural cap- abilities of the building. " The resolution has been passed and supported by several area councils. It was moved by Councillors Jim Robinson and Harold Hynd- man that the severence appli- cation of Dave Taylor be ac- cepted despite the fact it dis- agrees with the township official plan. The plan which was passed by the township on June 15, states the area as agricultural and will not allow severences creating a residential lot. The severence must contribute towards agri- culture. Mr. Taylor's application, however, was dated prior to the acceptance of the plan. The township plan has not yet been approved at the county level. Council is authorizing the Huron County Planning Dept. to make application to the Ministry of Housing for a Community Study Grant for the preparation of the zoning by-law for Howick.
