A GOOD WAY TO GET WET, and cooled off at the same
time. Paul Sauve on Stan, bobs for apples in a bucket during
the Junior and Tykes apple bobbing contest. This was part
of a gymkhana rodeo put on by the Maitland Valley Saddle
Club at Brussels on Sunday. The rider must go the length of
the ring, get off the horse and pick up an apple in his mouth.
Then he must remount and, with the apple still in his mouth,
race back to the finish line. Paul's time for the event was
22.3 seconds.
Howick township council
studies lower speed limits
The Howick Township council
is studying a suggestion by the
Ministry of Transportation to
lower the speed limit in Wroxeter
and Gorrie to 40 mph.
The speed limit is now 45 mph.
The villages are situated just off
Highway 87.
Council is supporting the reso-
lution of the Town of Exeter
regarding standards of the
National Building Code for are-
nas.
The resolution asks that the
Ministry of Labor be requested to
use the standards of the National
Building Code that were in effect
at the time of the construction or
renovation of the arena when
determining the structural cap-
abilities of the building. "
The resolution has been passed
and supported by several area
councils.
It was moved by Councillors
Jim Robinson and Harold Hynd-
man that the severence appli-
cation of Dave Taylor be ac-
cepted despite the fact it dis-
agrees with the township official
plan.
The plan which was passed by
the township on June 15, states
the area as agricultural and will
not allow severences creating a
residential lot. The severence
must contribute towards agri-
culture. Mr. Taylor's application,
however, was dated prior to the
acceptance of the plan.
The township plan has not yet
been approved at the county
level.
