Christian unity
is stressed by
Baptist speaker
Comparing the many members
of a body being unified to form
one body with individual mem-
bers of the body of Christ being
unified by the in -dwelling Spirit
of God, Pastor Ross Smith read
from the twelfth chapter of
Paul's letter to the Corinthians
when he spoke to the morning
congregation at the Wingham
Baptist Church on Sunday.
Pastor Smith quoted Paul's
words, "We are all baptized into
one body", explaining that this
baptism is not water baptism but
a baptism by the Holy Spirit of
God into the family of God. "This
baptism takes place at salvation
when the repentant sinner is
washed by the blood of Jesus
Christ and saved from his sin,"
he said. "At salvation the Spirit
of God comes to dwell within the
believer but it takes the filling by
the Spirit of God of the individual
Christian, to make the local
church of Jesus Christ a body
that is on the move for God and
reaching the lost."
The speaker stressed unity as
one evidence of being filled with
the Spirit but the final proof of a
Spirit -filled life is seen in obedi-
ence to the command of Christ to
"go and preach the gospel", in
the reaching of the lost for the
Savior.
During the worship service,
Doug Thomson sang a solo.
