Howick arena may see trouble due to safety rules Apparently, the new ;450,000 Howick Community Centre built two years ago is below safety standards. The difficulty lies in snow -load requirements established by the National Building Code, 1975. One square foot of the arena's roof must support 75 pounds of snow. When the arena was being built in 1974 the code's 1971 requirements were in effect. The rate was 65 pounds per square foot and the roof that was built is able to take 67 pounds per foot. The community centre is situated on Highway 87 east of Gorrie. Local ff 'ala An not think the A survey to determine the necessity of senior citizen housing in Howick Township will be arriving at some 500 house- holds shortly in accordance with a township council decision to authorize such a questionnaire. Those 60 or older will be sent the forms in Howick and will be expected to return them to the Ontario Housing Corporation who will make the final determination if old age housing is necessary. If any project is approved by the OHC, the township will be ex- pected to pay seven and half per cent of the operating deficit.
