g Thankoffering
GORRIE — The United Church
Women held their. Spring Thank -
d offering meeting in the church,
s Wednesday, April 28, when
guests from Molesworth, Ford-
wich. McIntosh, and the sister
churches in the community
united to enjoy a most interesting
evening with Rev. Michael Boul-
ger. of Monkton United Church as
special speaker.
Mrs. Lorne Mann, U.C.W.
president, welcomed the ladies,
and Mrs. Wesley Ball conducted
very meaningful opening devo-
tions. She chose her scripture
passages from Ephesians, 4 and
"'Matthew 25. Mrs. Mabel Free-
man favored with a piano solo.
Mrs. William Nay introduced
.the speaker relating interesting
highlights from Rev. Boulger's
experiences serving the Home
Mission Board at Bella Coola on
the north coast of British Colum-
bia, .and in Northern Manitoba.
Rev. Boulger followed the
example of the great missionary
of the gospel, Paul of Tarsus, by
serving as a part time minister
and by supporting himself by
working full time as an under-
ground miner on the west coast of
B.C. In the summer of 1971, he
secured his teacher's degree and
moved to Berenf River in Nor-
thern Manitoba. Here he worked
for the division of missions with
the Indian people. He taught full
time at the Indian school and was
also pastor of the community.
Stories of the rugged life in the
isolated community, the frustra-
tions, the challenge, the discour-
aging elements and the reward-
ing incidents were portrayed so
vividly one found oneself laugh-
ing at the amusing parts which
tempered the serious aspect of
such a tremendous missionary
effort. Members were made
much more aware of the scope of
the work being done by the divi-
sion of mission and service.
Rev. Boulger explained that
the role of the missionary is to
11romote the independence of the
people. The mission and service
division sponsors a school for
elders, so that the local church
may develop personnel from
their own people. He spoke of the
great service of radio transmis-
sion between the 30 church
manses scattered widely across
northern Manitoba and Saskat-
chewan, and which is their only
means of communication.
Mrs. Mann moved a vote of
thanks to Rev. Boulger for his
entertaining and enlightening ad-
dress. Rev. Wesley Ball pro-
nounced the benediction and an
hour of fellowship and sociability
concluded the evening.

I ht t MX1:h LITTLE PIGS was another play staged by the Kingdergarten class of Linda
Doubleday at Howick Central School's Spring Concert Tuesday evening. The plot of the
play centred around the wolf's attempt to blow down each of the houses built by the three
pigs.
ASIDE FROM NUMEROUS PLAYS put on by students of Howick Central School, a folk
dancing demonstration staged by Sue Coghlin's Grade 3 class provided for a pleasant
break in the action Tuesday evening at the Howick Spring Concern
IT'S NOT EVERY DAY one sees a French play but Tuesday evening at the Spring Concert
at Howick Central School, Blaire Fisher's Grade 4 class provided the public with such a
play. Although many could not keep up with the French dialogue, many understood the
play which centred around Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.
